Advantages: track spending on line, easy to use

Disadvantages: recent rate hikes, inflexible, unhelpful staff

I've written about this at length in the "Banks" section, but just a short warning.

Egg are fine as long as you don't try and do anything a bit complicated, or god forbid, try and pay off your balance. I tried to clear my debt two weeks ago and now have bank charges of £50. Four working days before my payment was due I had the cash to pay off my full debit balance. The online debit facility failed, I had to use a longer method and so I changed my payment details twice, firstly from minimum payment to full amount and then back from full amount to minimum payment. Three working days after the first change Egg requested the full amount from my bank as a direct debit, which of course failed. A call to customer services ended with me being told that "we need five full working days to alter the payment details". A written complaint ended with the same line and that the change to minimum payment took place withing that time frame.

I don't query that fact - what amazes ne is that they seem to be ignoring the fact that the change to full amount took place under five working days before the request was made!

I feel like they are punishing me for having the temerity to pay off my debt, and are trying to extract a last bit of cash off me.
