Advantages: Convienent, Easy to use, Interent accessible

Disadvantages: Long process to order, The colour of the card

After purusing the available options when it comes to credit cards, few stood out with as many pluses as the Egg Card. After applying through the internet which as always is a personal and intrusive method (leaving bank details for example), I had to wait seven days for the information to come through.

Upon the information arriving (2 Agreements, What to send back to them etc.) I then got together all the information that they require (last 3 month bank details, 2 utility bills, something else with name and address). Putting this in the measly freepost envelope provided with sellotape being required to prevent my most personal (and not that impressive) details being revealed to the postman and all and sundry.

A quiet few days passed and then an e mail was sent saying that it had been recieved and that it was being processed.....

Four more days passed and then a letter to say they would be posting it the following week (it being wednesday). Fair enough it arrived on the Monday which was better than expected however a total process from applying online to receiving the card took approimately 15-20 days, which through consoling friends have said this is a longer time in comparison.

Anyway...

The Egg Card was one of few credit cards with more than 6months of 0% interest on balance transfers, which is one of the key reasons for my purchase going up to January 2004. This gives good advantages especially after the Christmas sales, which I presume was their point.

Credit limits are impossible to assess. With student debts up to and beyond the eyeballs, but having landed a job, it seems that a random fgure was plucked from the air, however generous it was. Don't get me wrong, I am pleased with the credit limit but confused as to how that particular total was arrived at, oh well.

After purchasing an x box on the card (oh yes), balance transfers have been winging across the net. It is a simple process of enteri
ng the amount required to come from one source to the the egg. It confirms that the alternative source is the same name as the egg card and then processes it.

As per normal it takes approximately 7 days to complete, but lets you know its progress through e mails (if checked). A sound and easy to learn process.

With extra options such as travel insurance if holidays are purchased, no annual fee, 0% interest on all purchases until Jan 04 and 0.5 % cashback on purchases the egg card is nothing extroadinary however does the simple things well and makes sure that whatever the card is doing for you or you are doing to the card it lets you know as to its progress.

I think this card although widely used and reviewed is the perfect first credit card as it guides you through how to do the necessary things you got it for, but for more seasoned professionals something more tailored would suit.

The APR when it runs out will be 5.9% for the life of the balance (apparently, I like most did not read the small print)

I too had the initial setting up problems, but it is easy to manage on-line and you can arrange extra payments (ha ha) at the touch of a button.

What will the APR be when the 0% offer runs out?
