Advantages: Cash back, Easy to use on-line site

Disadvantages: Cash back has been reduced

I’m not a big credit card user – too sensible for that! The threat of debts and fraud scare me too much, so usually I’ll stick to good old cash.
There are times nowadays, though, when you simply have to have the old plastic – ordering concert tickets on the phone is a prime example. I’ve also had to use a credit card to book for hotels and that kind of thing.
My credit card of choice is egg.

I love the whole idea of egg – it was probably the first trendy bank with a new kind of user-friendly philosophy (if you don’t mind doing most of your business at the PC, that is)… for the younger generation, really.

The card looks great – a nice warm and friendly green colour.
But that’s not the reason you get a particular credit card is it?

The main reasons for me are
** the website is very simply laid out, easy to use and easy to understand
** the card gives cashback. Only 0.5% of purchase value currently. When the card started the cashback was 1%, and the reduction (about a year ago) happened very quietly. But it’s still cashback, and, to me that’s better than any other offers like nectar points, Airmiles, or whatever.
** (for new users) there’s a 0% introductory offer, if you apply for a card between November 1st and November 30th – and the 0% rate applies until May 1st 2004.

The standard interest rate (after that, if the rates don’t change), and the rate for established customers like myself, is 12.3% APR – that’s pretty low, compared to many other cards.
Having said that, please please please try to make sure you pay off the entire amount on your monthly bill – that way you won’t pay any interest.
You’ll just get your cashback!

Even if you don’t pay the whole amount off, repayments do need to be made every month, with minimum paymentsof £5.00, or 2% of the outstan
ding balance, whichever is higher.
You need to be 18 years or over to apply for a card.

All the information you’ll need about the egg credit card is here.
You can apply for a card here, as well, and, if you do get an account, you can get access to your statements here.

If you’re going to get a credit card – I’d recommend egg, especially if you pay off your monthly bills.

This does sound like quite good value. Sue

Good review, but not the best product around.

Only seen 2% cashback on the first three months with American Blue, but you can get a permanent 1% with them or from Capital One. Give Egg a miss if you can pay the balance off every month.

Good review. You can get up to 2% cashback on some cards if you look hard enough.
