Advantages: Easy with rewards on things i'd usually buy
Disadvantages: Now cost £3 to set up
I am a big believer in every little helps, if something is going to save you money in the long run I cannot usually find a fault with buying it. The same philosophy applies to Game's reward card.
This is a simple scheme similar to Tesco club card points; basically, every time you make a purchase you receive 2.5% of your purchase back in points on the card. This works out according to Game's website as 10 points per £1 spent.
Once your point balance on the card reaches 1000 you can redeem £2.50 off anything in store or leave them to build up and receive more off in the future.
I probably end up buying a new game nearly weekly between myself and my fiancé on average, so this card comes in handy and gets a lot of use, getting 400 points for a £40 new Xbox game for example, will add towards my next redemption.
The thing I love most about this card is how simple it is, there is nothing to keep up to date with, no missing points or anything to track. You simply hand it over whenever you buy anything and straight away the points are on your card, if you have 999 points and buy something, you can redeem the £2.50 off the same transaction that is giving you the extra points to put it to redemption level. I have been a member of a few point schemes that once you reach the limit, you have to wait till your next purchase to get anything back, but not with this one. It's a definite bonus.
I also really like the fact you can use your card on the website, it's really easy to type in your card number as you check out, it's similar to a discount code box on any website. It's very simple to do and adds more lovely points to your balance. Using Game's website you can also check your point balance and should you pre-order a new release, there is normally some sort of "Double Points" or "Extra Points" rewarded, bringing your reward to 20 points per £1 spent. Not too bad at all.
Like most schemes of this nature, it's quite hard to find any flaws, the card is a pretty pink and purple colour, fits nicely into any purse or wallet, and at the end of the day, providing you are purchasing things you would normally, your saving money.
It works well at keeping me going back to Game for my purchases, I will usually stroll round a few shops, as in my local shopping centre there is a HMV and a Game Station also, and check prices. If a game is the same everywhere, I will go to Game to get my points and perhaps an additional £2.50 off.
My fiancé and I have between us a lot of consoles. As such we have a lot of games and obviously share anything we like. We both have sign in's on all the consoles and save games on the different games. Since we both make use of the different games etc, we also share the points. We have 2 cards that are the same account. We asked at the counter in our local shop and they ordered us a spare card free of charge. This means if I am popping in to pick up the new Buzz game for the PS3 for example, which we will both play and there is £2.50 on the card from when my other half brought Killzone (which I don't play) the week before, I can redeem it. This works out great and makes "sharing" a lot easier to do, especially if it works in my favour ;)
Obviously this is not going to be fantastic for anyone who doesn't purchase a great deal of games. When I first signed up these were free to obtain, but now will cost you £3 to register. At 10 points per pound back, if you only ever purchase a game once or twice a year, then this obviously isn't going to get you very far and you might as well save your £3.
Overall I love my Game card. Purely for its simplicity and the fact it was free for me and saves me money on something I continue to buy frequently.
Thanks for reading :)
Summary: Definately worth it if you buy a lot of games
