Advantages: Reliable and polite
Disadvantages: No way out
I have had a Goldfish card for three years now just as credit cards was been given out left right and center. The design is probably the best thing about as the rates for cash advances %21 interest a year from the moment the money comes out of the slot were not the best at the time i used it. Other standard purchases from the first time you use it are around %18.5 which you have to pay when you receive your bill which can technically be seven weeks away from the first payment if you use it at the beginning of the month. So if you have lots of new cards you could pay each card off with another one until your in the money. If you pay it off before the date printed on the bill then you don't pay interest .If you fail to pay a minimum of %3 of the balance as stipulated you will be hit with nasty charges between ten and fithteen quid a month which is also charged interest on. 25 notes if you go over your credit limit with out asking for an increase.Post your invoice at least a week before its due as it can get lost on the crap mail trains. Balances can be transferred between different cards but read the small print as you will probably be paying more interest after a year or so.They also issue cheque books if you need one for no extra charges. The promotion miles are nothing spectacular and you need to spend a grand to earn a tenner although they do have some deals tied in with big companies like British Gas and BT.You cant spend any miles until you have a crewed 500+. You can have a second card for your friend or partner and choose Visa or Mastercard. On my vast traveling experience Visa is the preferredd choice by banks and retailers. If you want to get a cash advance abroad most bank machines will charge you a minimum total charge of $2,00 os sometimes %2 percent of the transactions. The card people have been very good and polite,on and off the phones with quick efficient responses. One problem i did encounter was when i first used it in The S
tates last year when i was backpacking around and went to use it to get a cash advance, nothing happened.Apparently i had not activated it so i had to call the emergency number to re-activate it.I did go through the automated phone process before i set out but i presume i cocked it up a long the line somewhere so double check to avoid major panic. If you have 400 pounds on the card that's only 13 pounds a month payment which is half interest and half paying off so its not at all painful when you finally need that cash. There are a lot of better deals out there now but remember they suck you in with low starter rates and as soon as you are on the rates start to rise dramatically and the game is on. Good polite customer support who try to put you at your ease and wont charge you if you genuinely lose the card or have a slightly late payment, some really push card insurance and wont hesitate to hit you hard..Good card on the whole. 51
