Advantages: Vouchers
Disadvantages: Not the best scheme
I leapt on the Goldfish bandwagon as soon as the card was released. Why: No annual fee Choice of Mastercard or Visa Reasonable interest rates Rewards - vouchers I could claim worth 1% of my total spending. This was fantastic. No other card had up to that point offered really useful everyday vouchers bak with no annual fee. Other companies either charged you a fee or gave silly rewards like 3% off the next new car you buy. Vouchers range from British Gas to Boots and Asda. Do be careful though, not all vouchers equate to the same cash value. Marks and Spencer vouchers for example only give you £10, where you would get £12.50 for the some amount of points with Asda. I have no complaints about how my account is run, or about customer service. The card is backed by HFC bank. So why just four stars? Goldfish is now very much a me-too product. Other companies offer better rewards. Alliance & Leicester and egg both offer cold hard cash, and their double points partners mean you can rack up cash quicker. Egg for example give you 2% cash back against anything you buy in their egg on line shopping area. A&L double your cash at BP stations. Shop around and choose the best card(s) for you, but remember these cash rewards get eaten up far quicker than you earn them if you don't pay your full balance off every month.

- 03/08/00 That's a useful summary of the card, I've just appied for an egg card which was very simple to do online - it took me ten minutes. They also have a 1% back, but you get it as a credit to your bill - cash effectively, and if you buy from selected places on the internet - you'll get 2% back! Fantastic. Very useful if you're good with money. Thanks! |
