Advantages: Diverse range of cards

Disadvantages: No loyalty scheme

Lloyds TSB is an agressive bank that lives by buying out other banks and then merging them into its own structure. This has resulted in a confusing family of cards that not even Lloyds TSB staff seem to understand.

Part of the problem is that Lloyds run a system called 'heritage' which means that staff are not permitted to talk about products that that did not originate from there own bank. For instance, if they were trained by the TSB they can only talk about these products.

On top of this we have the LLoyds management imposing marketing ideas upon branches that nobody understands. For instance, Loyds offer an Asset Gold card and an Asset Advantage card. You would expect the gold card to be the better of the two, right? Wrong.

The Asset Advantage card is designed for people who like to borrow on there cards, which means that interest is lower but it must be paid even if the balance is paid in full each month. Asset Advantage has one other advantage not shared by other Lloyds TSB cards. It carries insurance againced the risk of finding the product you have just bought at a lower price.

Unfortunately none of the Lloyds heratage cards offer loyalty points. If you like the idea of the insurance I have just mentioned, but want other benefits too, then I would go for a Barclaycard.
