Advantages: 0% balance transfer, interest free period

Disadvantages: The advantage combined

I ordered a Marks and Spencer credit card, its advert looked good with the points, the free interest period of up to 55 days if paid off by the allocated date and the 0% Balance Transfer for 6 months which I took advantage of.

So I went ahead and transferred £600 from another card and off I go shopping spending a few hundred pounds, or thereabouts. The statement came in and I paid off all but the £600 which reached the account in plenty of time.

When the next statement came in, interest had been added. I rang the call centre up and they said it was because I hadn’t paid the balance off..... apparently they take your payment off the balance transfer and then charge you interest. They also confirmed, when I asked the question, that if I had only used them for the balance transfer purpose I wouldn’t have paid any interest.

Summary: I did not expect to pay interest

I got caught out in the same way by a Morgan Stanley credit card. They hide that information away in the small print when you arrange the card. Welcome to Dooyoo if you have any questions drop me a line in my Tooyoo guestbook the link to whch is on my home page.

A useful warning, but what about the actual interest rates, the ease of use and the other benefits of the card? A comparison to another card would have helped anyone who is searching around... let me know if you update and I will re-rate @;-)
