It doesn't matter if you are someone who jets off regularly or if you just have one break abroad in a year - it is worth getting it and safely tucking it away with your passport to save those extra charges. For use in this country it is also competitive, but personally I have found better deals elsewhere, so I keep my nationwide card just for foreign travel. As with all cards you need to look at the interest rates if you don't pay your balance in full at the end of each month. Also if you think having a.n.other card just for travel would cause you to be tempted to spend on it at other times of the year- then don't get it... more

If you travel abroad and like to spend on your credit card - then this is a card you should get because it is fee free when you use it abroad. at present i have a Nationwide Comic Relief Credit Card. However I have recently found out that Nationwide are getting rid of this and I will be transferred to the Classic Card. The Comic Relief Card gives a percentage of each purchase price to the comic Relief Charity - one of the reasons i chose the Card. The main reason i got the card is that Nationwide do not charge a fee for purchases in foreign countries. There is a charge for withdrawing cash from ATMs however this is no where near as much as other credit cards. now that they are gettign rid of the comic Relief Card I will stay with the classic Card for overseas purchases but am ... Apply for and use a Nationwide Visa card you will not earn free loyalty points. Huh ? Well, Nationwide have basically decided that points based loyalty schemes only benefit a few people as you need to spend large amounts to get any decent return. So what they have done is create one with damm good features and low interest rates instead. There are actually 3 options you can get - the Classic, The Comic relief Charity and the Cash Back. You can apply online or in a branch. The Classic (which I have ) gives you an introductory rate of 0% p.a. for the first six months for purchases and balance transfers and 13.9% after that. With its low rates, ... Read the complete review

As someone else has already mentioned, this is a very good card for using abroad, because Nationwide don't charge any commission for retail transactions abroad. Nationwide has a slight edge over another card issuer charging no commission abroad (Liverpool Victoria/Frizzell) in that Nationwide's fees for cash advances are very low (0.5%, min 50p). Another very good feature of Nationwide is the ability to download statements directly into Microsoft Money without even visiting the web site. You don't need a Nationwide bank account to do this, and it is particularly useful for foreign transactions when you don't yet know the GBP amount that has ... Read the complete review
