Advantages: Can be used in lots of places

Disadvantages: None

Sainsbury's loyalty scheme is administered through the nectar card. For every purchase you make in Sainsburys supermarkets and at their petrol stations you are awarded 2 points. 2 points is worth approximately 1p. Points are also awarded for reusing carrier bags - 1 point per bag.

The points are added to your card and you can redeem the points any time you like at the till of your local store or you can echange them for many other things too - like gifts, days out airmiles etc. All the details are on the nectar site.

You can also collect points in many other ways

1,000 points when booking a holiday through Expedia.co.uk.
2 nectar points per £1 with the AA
2 nectar points per £1 at Beefeater
1 nectar point for 1 litre at BP
2 nectar points per £1 at Brewers Fayre
2 nectar points per £1 at Dollond and Aitchison
Collect thousands of nectar points with EDF Energy
2 nectar points per £1 at Ford
Collect points every time you visit Gala Bingo.
2 nectar points per £1 at Hertz
Collect points by trading in your old mobile phone. More details on www.mobile2points.co.uk
With the Nectar Credit Card issued by American Express you can earn 2 points for almost every £1 spent on the Nectar Credit Card at Nectar participating sponsors. 1 point for almost every £1 spent on the Card everywhere else. You can also get a massive 50000 points if you spend over £200 in your first 3 months.
Collect Nectar points when you shop online through Nectar eStores.
Collect Nectar points on DVD rentals and downloads from Nectar Film Club
Collect Nectar points and discounts at Nectar Wine Club - 2 Nectar points per £1
2 Nectar points per £1 at Table Table
2 Nectar points per £1 from TalkTalk
50 Nectar points for using your Thomson Local
100 points for registering and further Nectar points for taking part in surveys.

You can also get 100 points for taking part and registering in the TNS surveys and when you open up a Nectar Child Trust Fund.

Phew.... that was a list and a half!! As you can see from so many sources it is well worth getting a nectar card if you do not already have one...so far this year I have collected £90 worth of points - not bad for just using my card where I normally make purchases any way... For further information just visit the nectar card site at www.nectar.com

Summary: A great loyalty card

I don't visit Sainsbury's often enough to justify a card, especially since our local one revamped so badly half the shoppers left! I don't use 'loyalty' cards anyway because they are used to target shoppers with junk mail; they contain so much information about you.
