Advantages: can collect points and treat yourself
Disadvantages: None
The Nectar card is a reward/Loyalty scheme which was launched in September 2002.
** How easy is it to collect points**
Collecting points is very very easy. You can collect points on the high street, travel and leisure, at BP garages, lots of retailers online through the Nectar estores link.
Shopping at Sainsburys you can earn 2 points per pound, and 1 Nectar point for 1 litre at Sainsburys and BP garages.
You can also earn bonus points if you sign upto Sainsburys insurance, home, life, travel etc etc.
I have recently signed up to TNS, this is a survey site and you can earn extra Nectar points everytime they send you a survey to complete. The points get automatically transfered to your nectar card. In 1 month i have earned nearly 400 nectar points, which is good as the surveys take no longer than a few minutes, and i have done around 4.
http://www.mytns.com/ please visit this website to sign up.
** How easy is it to spend your points**
Because i'm not a home owner yet i don't tend to do a big shop at Sainsburys so don't use my points paying for food. Every 500 points is £2.50 off your shopping. All you have to do is let the Shop Assistant know and they will use your Nectar card to take off the points.
If you do a lot of shopping in Sainsburys i advise you to go to the website and look at the bonus points section, you can opt in to deals where you spend a certain amount of food items and get extra points, its a very good deal.
I always use my points to buy DVDs/CD's. You do this by logging onto the Nectar website, go to spend your points, and click entertain, then click on CDs/DVDs, and then you can choose from a wide collection. I bought a CD the other day, it was brand new out in the shops and i paid 1,600 points for it. Its very quick and simple, and you receive an email from CD WOW straight away giving you order confirmation and you can then track your order. I received my CD 3 days later.
** Overall thoughts**
I really enjoy using my Nectar card. I don't earn the points quickly, but i have now noticed lots of other places i shop that you can now use your card in. Once the points have added up its great treating yourself.
If you don't have a Nectar card, its very easy to sign up. Pick up a registration pack from participating stores and send back the form. The pack comes with two cards, this makes it easier if you share the shopping with a friend or loved one.
Summary: Collect points with this great loyalty card

- 03/11/08 I used to have one of these (signed up through Sainsburys). It took me a while to get the amount of points for anything decent, despite having a Nectar credit card, which being through AMEX, wasn't accepted everywhere.
I did manage to rack up enough points to get my NDS although it took 18 months. I have changed to Tesco now so the Nectar card has been put to the back of my wallet.
I do believe Nectar is the UK's largest loyalty reward scheme though! Amazing since 1 point is worth about 0.01p. |
