Advantages: Pick up easy rewards from high street stores

Disadvantages: Rewards aren't great from online retailers

I've had a Nectar card since they first came out several years ago and as reward schemes go, it's pretty impressive.

You can collect reward points from many different shops and restaurants including Sainsbury's, Homebase, Brewer's Fayre, Table Table and Beefeater. Usually your reward is around 0.5%-1% of what you spend. It's not great, but it does add up over time.

Points can be redeemed online, instore (including stores that don't give out Nectar points, such as Argos) or exchanged for vouchers or days out.

For high street shopping, I don't think there's a better scheme around.

However, if you're shopping online you'd be much better off joining a cashback website such as Quidco (www.quidco.com).

For example, lets say you were to buy something for £10 at Play.com... If you went through Nectar, you'd get 20 points, which equates to 10p. If you bought the same item through Quidco you'd get 40p - 4 times as much money back!

Summary: Use instore, but not online
