Advantages: Easy & convenient

The Nectar Card is a loyalty card provided by Sainsburys which allows you to gain points each time you shop there. In general, you get 2 points for every £1 spent, although there are may be special double point promotions which are on quite frequently. Also as a nectar card holder, you get e-mailed special points offers by post. Spend on a petrol also used to be worth 2 points for every £1 spent until recently, now you only get 1 point for every £1 unfortunately.

Points earned can be spent in store to redeem against your shop or also against items on the main Nectar website which is linked to a number of major online retailers. By going through the nectar site, you can also gain extra points by shopping at these sites. In addition, points can currently be redeemed at Argos where every 250 points gets you £2.50 off.

An American Express Nectar Credit Card is now also available which allows you to gain extra points when used against purchases. However beware as this is a credit card so therefore will incur interest if not paid off in full each month.

I shop at Sainsburys regularly & it takes me ages to build up points of any value, so although the nectar scheme is a small added bonus, it doesn't have a huge amount of value until you've spent quite a bit at Sainsburys, maybe a few years worth of shopping!

Summary: A little extra bonus but not much more than that
