Nectar cards are "pointless"
Author Name: Crystal
Advantages: Great if you like to be ripped off
Disadvantages: They close your account without warning
For years I have been using my Nectar card to build up points and back when Nectar began, they did not have this stupid rule that the account gets deactivated if nothing happens on the account for 12 months. I have been using my Clubcard more recently and so got out of the habit of using my nectar card. Then, the other day I found my Nectar card in my purse and decided to check the online account. I was surprised to find that my account had been deactivated as I had not used it in 12 months. This was news to me as I had a gap in using it back in 2007 for about a year and I was able to just carry on using it - I just had to update my address etc.
I have lost over 32,000 points and they do not even email to give you warning that they will be "stealing" your points. Nectar, instead hide behind their 12 month no use deactivation policy. They have since offered me a new account which I have turned down. I see no reason to go to the trouble of swiping the card to get points, the cash equivalent of which just ends up in some fat company's pocket.
I shall be sticking firmly with my Tesco clubcard.
Summary: Don't bother - there are better cashback schemes out there these days
