Advantages: Easy to use, cheap, quick access to PayPal funds
Disadvantages: None really
I was very dubious about getting a prepaid card... I have reasonable credit rating, bank account, so why would I want one. Having looked at others, they seemed to charge you for putting money in, then again for drawing money out or even paying for something. Then PayPal introduced their card and it all made sense.
Basically, you pay £4.95 for the card. Then you can load it in various ways. If you top-up at a PayPoint outlet you get charged £1. So pay in £50, £100, or even £300 and the charge is £1... not bad. Paying for things results in you just paying the ticket price, no small percentage, so good again.
The reason I got one is that I sell a few bits on ebay. Normally people pay me via PayPal, then when my balance reaches about £50 to £100 I withdraw it to my bank, wait 3-5 days, sometimes longer and I can use the money. With the PayPal Top-Up Card, I can load it online, pay for the upload via PayPal and 24 hours later (sometimes less) the money is available to spend, anywhere that accepts visa. You don't get any printed statements, so you have to log-in and do everything online, but that is fine for most people.
Summary: A very quick and easy way to compliment your ebay/PayPal account

- 02/04/09 I have one but do hate how it costs £2 to make a withdrawal at the cash machine. |

- 02/04/09 I've read this three times and am still not sure what the point of this is. What's wrong with a normal free credit card? Why can't you wait a few days for paypal funds to go into your regular account? Why do you need to upload money to it in order to receive money for selling things? I'm lost. |
