Cineworld Unlimited Card
by emmal87
I've had my Cineworld unlimited card for about 7 years now, back when the company was called UGC. I think back then it was £10 for unlimited films for a month. It has slowly crept up to £15 a month since then. I still find this to be good value for money as I generally go to the cinema about once a week, which would cost me about £32 a ... month if I paid the standard fee. For £15, I can see as many films as I like per month. So, it's good for those days where I am bored but cash strapped as I all I have to pay is my train fare to catch a film.
I used to receive vouchers for money off popcorn, drinks etc in the cinema but haven't received any for a year or two now. You sometimes receive email offer for money off movie magazine subscriptions and meals in local restaurants.
The only draw back I can think of is that you cannot pre-book film tickets using this card. This is only ever really an issue when a big blockbuster comes out such as the Harry Potter or Twilight films. Unfortunately, I'm a huge fan of both these series' so I have had to pay to book my tickets to films such as they, but since I grudge paying to attend a cinema I am supposed to get unlimited access to films in, I just take myself off to the Odeon if I'm pre-booking so it doesn't feel like such as waste. Cineworld Unlimited Card
by star3683
I no longer have my Cineworld unlimited card but up until a few months ago my husband and I both had the cards for over a year. We decided to get the cards as the price of going to the cinema now is very expensive especially if there is two of you and due to our working hours going on a Wednesday and taking advantage of the Orange ... Wednesday BOGOF offer or going before noon to get a cheaper price was not always possible.
Getting the cards was very easy, we just simply completed the online form and uploaded a photo. I was then emailed with a temporary letter that allowed us to use take advantage of the unlimited usage until our actual cards arrived in the post. I think our cards took around a week to arrive which I thought was pretty quick.
The current costs of the unlimited cards are:
- Valid in the UK and Ireland excluding London West End Cinemas - £14.99 per month or £179.88 annually.
- Valid at all Cineworld Cinemas in the UK and Ireland - £17.99 per month or £215.88 annually.
I do think that if you purchase the annual card you should get a little bit of discount but at the moment it just works out the same price as purchasing the monthly card which you pay for by direct debit. You do need to have the card for a minimum of 12 months before you can cancel your subscription so remember to look out for this in the small print when you purchase your card if paying monthly.
You also get a few other benefits of being an unlimited card holder including:
- Discounts on magazine subscriptions.
- Fortnightly email newsletter, which contains invites to advance screenings.
- Discounts from selected retailers, including restaurants.
- Exclusive competitions.
To use the card you simply show it at the cinema where they scan the card and issue your tickets. At first our local Cineworld had a special separate queue for unlimited card holders so that you did not have to queue as long. I thought that this was a great incentive as sometimes especially on a Wednesday or when there is a big new release the queues can be huge. But this only lasted a couple of months before it disappeared which meant having to then join the at times huge queues again.
Overall I was very impressed with our Cineworld cards we only stopped them when my husband was made redundant last year as we needed to save all of the money we could but it is certainly something I would consider again in the future. The biggest incentive is that you only really need to go to see two films per month to get your money's worth from the card and anymore is a bonus! Also if money is a bit tight at the end of the month you know you can always have a night out at the cinema and do not have to take a penny with you, unless of course it's a 3D film. As you do still have to pay a surcharge for 3D films but this is discounted from £2.10 for an adult to £1.50 if you have an unlimited card. Also you do need to pay £0.80 for 3D glasses if you need them, I always save mine so I avoid this cost and obviously do my recycling bit for the environment.
I also had no problem when I had to cancel our cards, I simply called the customer service number, spoke to one of the advisors who cancelled our direct debits immediately without any questions. This was followed by a confirmation letter to state that the cards had been cancelled.
I would certainly recommend anyone to purchase this card if you live near a Cineworld and like to watch a lot of films as it can save you a fortune. Read the complete review |

Cineworld Unlimited Card
by GuruOnAMountain
I'd toyed with the idea of getting a Cineworld card for quite some time but decided to make the plunge this year. I live near Glasgow and therefore am lucky enough to have the massive Glasgow Cineworld cinema near me which was at one time the tallest cinema in the world (I don't know if it still is!) and has 18 screens. It also has a bar ... where you can kill time waiting on a movie to start although it is rather overpriced. The top floor affords great views, too.
All in all, I felt with a great cinema like that on my doorstep, I'd be daft not to get a Cineworld Unlimited card. It costs £14.99 for a month or £179.88 for a whole year for access to cinemas all over the UK and Ireland apart from London West End cinemas. If you want to include access to West End cinemas then you'll need to fork out a little extra: £17.99 a month or £215.88 for the year.
I decided to pay for my card in a one off rather than paying monthly through a direct debit. It is important to realise, however, that even if you sign up for it on a monthly basis, you are signing up to a year long contract and if you cancel it before you have paid 12 monthly installments, you may be charged for the remaining months left on your contract.
I ordered the card online and had to upload a photo which was then used to create a temporary card for me to print out and use straight away. My real shiny red card was sent through the post a few days later. I used the temporary card (or piece of paper!) and it was no bother. I simply handed it over at the desk and the cashier typed the number from the card into the computer. When my real card arrived, it was even simpler. You simply ask for your film at the desk, show your card and they'll ask you to swipe it through the credit/debit card machine when it lights up and that's you ready to rock and roll.
Most movies are free on the card but you do have to pay a little extra for 3D films (currently £1.50 extra for 3D movies and 80p for 3D glasses but these can be kept and reused).
There is also meant to be some other benefits for Unlimited card holders such as 50% off subscriptions to Empire, FHM, , Grazia, Heat and Q and also discounts in local businesses. Discounts for non film showings such as opera is offered but I've never went to a non film showing so I'm not sure how great the discount is. There is also an Unlimited exclusive email sent out to Unlimited customers with exclusive competitions. I must admit, I haven't received much in the way of the promised local discounts to restaurants etc. through email that I was promised. The one email I did receive was for restaurants outwith Glasgow so was of no use to me. However, I didn't sign up to the card for restaurant discounts so that doesn't bother me too much.
A major selling point for me was the fact that the Unlimited card used alongside an Orange Wednesdays text ticket allows you a friend in for free as your card counts as the paying ticket. My boyfriend and I used to frequently use this offer when we had time to kill and nothing much to do on a Wednesday. Of course, if you go to see a 3D film, you'll have extra to pay.
The card does exactly what it says on the tin giving card holders access to a year's worth of movies for a relatively small fee and considering that the cheapest adult ticket costs £6.90 and an adult ticket after 5pm Mon-Thurs and after 12 noon Fri-Sun would set you back £8.30 at Glasgow Renfrew Street cinema, you can see that you clearly quickly make back your money if you go to the cinema even just two or three times a month. However, you do feel a bit obliged to go and get your money's worth and so you can end up in a situation where you begin to get bored with the cinema. Also, if you can't go to the cinema without buying some popcorn and Coke, then the cost of snacks will add up on top of the cost of your card.
All in all, though, it's a good deal, especially for a cinema lover and I would recommend it. Read the complete review |
