Advantages: They will offer an extended interest free period in order to keep existing customers!

Disadvantages: Call centre take ages to get through to a human being and many confusing options

Since being a student I have had a credit card and have always been up to my limit. I never seemed to be able to reduce the amount I owed and was always just about meeting the minimum payment without touching the amount I owed. Then a friend told me to try moving the amount I owed to an interest free credit card. I imagined that the process would be difficult and it wasn't and now I have done it dezens of times and used lots of different card issuers.

Amoung the ones I recommend I would have to include the Royal Bank of Scotland Credit Card (0% for 9 months). The only thing I found to be dissapointing about it was that they charge you to transfer a balance but then that is pretty standard nowadays I guess.

I found the telephone service to be useful (once I got through to a human which always took a long time but I come to expect that kind of thing). I found it easy to set up my internet banking and to pay online monthly. The ease of their website helped me to keep track of my debt and to budget better to pay it off and this has proved really helpful.

When it came to the end of my 9 month period, I contacted them to change it and I must say that I spoke to 3 people who all kept trying to convince me to stay with them or keep the account open as it wouldn't cost me anything to do so once my balance had been transfered. They also offered to give me another 9 months interest free period in order to save me paying a transfer fee to go with another interest free credit card (if i had only known before I transfered it)! I thought that part was a marvelous perk although I wasn't in a position to take them up on it. But a good reference for others thinking of getting this card that before you transfer, phone them and ask them to give you another 9 months interest free or you will transfer to another card and close that account. Saves you that annoying transfer fee.

I would pretty much recommend them as credit cards go but as in other reviews, their telephone customer service takes a lifetime to get through to.

Summary: Pretty good as card issuers go. Made me consider having a current account with them!
