Advantages: none
Disadvantages: a false reward
I have been shopping at Merton Savacentre for almost 10 years now. It has a massive car park and has spaces for parents with children close to the entrance. It has several franchises from Adams to Mothercare. It sells everthing from egg cups to microwaves. This is the reason I use it. I find it extremely expensive. The reward scheme use to give £2.50 for every 250 points you had collected. About a year ago they decided to change it to 'double points'.... however, for 500 reward points you still only received £2.50!!! They either think you are a complete thicko, or just dont really care what you, their customer, thinks. Lets remember that to get 2 points, you need to spend £1. So obviously, to get your whoopee £2.50....you would need to have spent £250.00. We spend on average about £500.00 a month, so over the year we have 'gained' £60.00 in reward. 1%. For a customer spending £6,000.00 pounds a year, I think this is quite an insult. I am also of the belief that there is no such thing as a 'free lunch' and that Sainsburys 'recoup' through price increase. We save the points up for Christmas, and whilst a whopping £60.00 is handy, I would rather be rewarded with low prices or value for money at the least, throughout the whole year. Also, another thing that really annoys me is when they offer 'buy 2/3 and get an extra 50 points'...what about the pensioners that have trouble finding the money for 1 item let alone 2 or 3. Perhaps if Sainsburys PR department really wanted to do good for pensioners and themselves (publicity)...they should give pensioners extra rewards fullstop. Maybe 4 points per £1 spent. Lets face it, they can afford it, and who in their right mind would object...(ie, other customers). Another thing that annoys me is when they offer 'new customers' a bonus of '1,0
00 points' just for joining up. In this instance, surely they should give the same to existing customers who have spent thousands and thousands with them already?

- 25/03/01 I shop at Morrisons mostly and sometimes Asda. These are the only 2 stores close enough to use. Neither have a reward scheme in our town. It would be nice to have the choice. R :-) |

- 06/01/01 I ahve recently switched to Morrisons for our main shop. They don't have a reward card as such but if you join HSBC instore bank you can get a credit card which earns you points wherever you shop. Good opinion, I thought it was well done.

- 03/01/01 I'm not sure I agree with you on all of this! Sainsbury's prices are very competitive and the food is far better than a lot of the stuff you get at other supermarkets. I also spend a huge amount there every month and I think that it's nice to get something back for all the amount you spend - a few years ago you got no reward and just a huge grocery bill! This way at least you do get a bit back. They did rip us off with the reward points though although the points were worth the same - they still only gave away up to 100 points on promotions and the value was then half what it used to be. I've also noticed that they have hardly anything on offer with free points attached - I used to be able to fill my trolley with stuff that had extra points and now I'm lucky if I find one offer! |
