Advantages: Tripple dipping, Good for reps

Disadvantages: You can do better

I am an Air Miles collector, and was looking for a card with which to accumulate points. The shell card is one of three that will do this (the other two being NatWest and Sainsburys - BA Diners is no longer issued).

One attraction of the Shell card is that it is possible to 'tripple dip' while shopping with Shell. This means that it is possible to earn points once by shopping, then be paid all over again because it is a Shell purchace, and then finaly present your Shell smart card to be paid a third time.

If you never spent much money anywhere other than Shell petrol stations then this would be a wonderful deal, but even then we should think carefully before picking it up. I will explain in a moment.

I was not being sarcastic when I made my comment about never spending any money in places other than petrol stations. Some people do... if you were a hard working rep hammering up and down the country, eating Shell sandwiches at the roadside then it would be possible to accumulate a couple of good hollidays a year.

The reason we should think twice before taking this offer is simply that it is possible to earn 200 miles simply for being accepted by NatWest. This is half a holliday and it is still possible to apply for a Shell smartcard (which is not a money card at all, but a loyalty scheme.)
