Advantages: Secure, No overdrafts

Disadvantages: Still turned away in some places.

Solo is quite a good way to pay for items, because its direct debit system ensures that the user does not get into debt, unlike switch which may allow you overspend and become overdrawn. That's why Solo is so popular with teenagers and young savers. It's supplied by many banks, such as HSBC and NatWest and allows you to pay for goods in shops as well as to withdraw money from ATMs. Solo is on the Chip and Pin system, so is a safe way to pay for stuff. In theory no one should be able to use your card in a shop, unless they know your pin, which you don't tell anyone, so perfect.
Solo is accepted most places these days, but still not everywhere and if I was to suggest a negative point regarding Solo, it would definitely be that many places refuse to accept it. Even online, many places will display a pop up message saying "Sorry we cannot accept solo" when you attempt to pay for goods on the checkout page. Whilst it is accepted nearly everywhere, it really should be accepted everywhere in my opinion.
If your son/daughter is getting a Solo Card or if you are a young person and are getting one, then be assured it is a fast and safe way to pay for items, both on the high street and over the internet. I give it 4 stars just because it is still not accepted everywhere.

Summary: Generally very good and highly recommended.
