Advantages: debit card

Disadvantages: numerous things

Now I am not a fan of the Bank Of Scotland and that is where I got this card from. Before I go any further with this review, I suppose I better explaine the heading.

Things were going great for me with the bank. I had my student account with cheque book and Switch debit card. Then some idiot decided to use my Switch numbers to top up their mobile (I don't know who done it, but I wish I did.) I went to the bank to tell them this, they cancelled my card and said if my account ran smoothly for "a month or two" they would send me a new card. This was last september. I like to pay bills with debit card thesedays, so obviously I was struggling without one. I was offered a Solo card and this is exactly the same as the Switch, but the bank made me feel like scum for having one. I can only pay for things with it as it is not a cheque guarantee card.

Most of you know how these cards work. You can use your card to pay for purchases in shops, or things over the phone or internet. As long as you have money in your account then it will let you make your purchases.

However I have found some places that don't accept it. I recently tried to pay a catalogue that I had just started using. I had forgot about the payment and phoned them up to pay by the debit card. I was informed that they don't accept this card, I don't know why, so this resulted in my payment being late. I know there are some shope that refuse it too, so I end up taking the money out first to save any embarrasment. Every place should accept it as it was launched in 1997 and should be equal to the Switch card as they are the same.

I did prefer the Switch card, and have been made to feel inadequate for having the Solo. At least it serves my purpose though!

I am also one of the lower class Solo card holders, but I have found that there are many many places who take it, and if they don't I just make sure I take some cash with me, but it does mean checking beforehand, but it also stops those impulse purchases!

Great opinion, I too am one of the 'scum' who have a solo card. One day we won't get sighs of pity when we use it!
