Advantages: Can only use when funds are present, No Hassle

Disadvantages: Not all retailers accept the card

I have a Solo card with Natwest and i have had it for about 6 months now. The Solo card is a debit card and this is different from a credit card. A credit card is available to over 18s and you can take money out and pay it back with interest. A Debit card is available to almost anyone. Instead of borrowing the money, you are actually debiting the money from your own account and if you havent got the money, the card will be declined.

It is from Solo, the sister company of Switch. Solo was introduced in July 1997. The advantages are that when you go into a shop and pay for the goods on the Solo card you can only proceed if you have the funds in your account, this is good because you cannot go overdrawn accidently and you will therefore not incur any further charges.

The main disadvantage is that the Solo card is not accepted everywhere. It is accepted in 498,406 outlets in the UK. It is accepted in places such as Asda but certain places i have come across do not for example Boots. This is not really a problem because if you need cash you can always use the Automated Cash Machines which are usually nearby to many shopping centres. The Solo card can also be used on the internet to purchase products which is another advantage.

When the card is swiped at the till or sent through the internet, it is confirmed to have the funds and if the funds are present then you can continue with the sale. With Natwest you get monthly statements for all your ingoings and outgoings for the particular account. The card symbol is a purple background with the word SOLO written in White letters and has a symbol which is black and white enclosed in a circle.

You can use the card abroad if you want to, the symbols are on the back of the card, Maestro and Cirrus. This may be subject to interest. On the card is printed the name of the account holder, the personal number, the sort code, the issue date, and the expiry date.

The card is free and all
you have to do is sign up with a bank and they will set the ball rolling.

My Opinion
I think that the SOLO card is really good. I am with Natwest and i get monthly statements but you can choose the have otherwise. I think it is good because not only do i have easy access to money, but i can buy thinks over the internet which is really good too.

I hope this will help you
