Advantages: Worth a fiver! Yes, a fiver!
Disadvantages: Might take you a while to get it!
That's the question I get asked every time I do the weekly shop in our local Somerfield. Unlike many dooyooers, as I live in rural Norfolk, we do not have the choice of about 4 or 5 supermarkets on our doorstep - just a measly old Somerfield. However, I do use this store to my advantage (see sepearte review) One of the advantages I find is their points card. This, to any outsider looks like any other worthless piece of plastic, but after a while, this is actually worth a FIVER!!! Yes, I know it's just so hard to believe - not only can this piece of plastic scrape ice off your windscreen, or even mud off your shoes, in time, this FIVER could be yours! "But there must be a catch!" I hear you cry! Well, yes, there are just two: 1. Every time you go shopping you have to put your card in a little machine thing, which eats your card for a while, then spits it back at you with glorious amounts of "points" on it. 2. The fiver is only valid at Argos. However, with a great selection of thousands of goods, these points come in very useful. In recent times, I don't think I've actually bought anything from Argos. I don't really know how many points equal what, but for a rough indication, I usually spend £60-£70 a week and fill up a card in about 6 weeks. I think these cards are very handy if you are a loyal shopper, or simply have no other choice, like me!

- 07/01/01 I got the points=pounds thing wrong, and went into Argos with a partially filled card thinking I was going to get £1.50 off my purchase, embarrasingly it was only 37p |
