Disadvantages: Purchase over £10,000 not granted despite approval via phone

My card has since been changed from Switch to Maestro, ok no problem. I make a purchase in excess of £10,000. The bank phones and asks if I have made such a purchase, yes I answer, okay - no problem. Only to find out a week later the transaction never took place and missed the boat on my purchase. NatWest told me the seller declined the transaction, the seller tells me the bank declined the transaction. Getting to the bottom of it all I have since found out that Maestro will not accept transactions over £10,000 even though you have gone to the trouble to phone the bank back who had left a message on answer phone regarding the transaction. The bank said they have received so many complaints over this recently. What makes me so mad is that the bank completely blame Maestro they say they have nothing to do with them. WHO IS THIS THIRD PARTY? I missed out on a deal because of them.
