It's good to know that i don't have to carry cash, and that i can't get into debt in the same way that a credit card might allow me to. For those who aren't sure what a switch card is, i'll just give a brief definition...

A switch card debits money straight from your account from the point of sale. It was founded in 1988, and has become common place since then. Because it deducts straight from your account (within 2 days) you cannot spend more money than what is in your bank account. You can also get up to £50 cash back from many supermarkets with your card.

I live in Northern Ireland, and would sometimes cross the border to the rep of ireland. and unfortunately Switch doesn't work there, or is not widely accepted. Although i recently saw an advertisement on TV which said Switch was changing to become accepted outside the UK. This would be great.

At home I have never been refused my card at any store, restaurant or bar, which makes it seem to me that Switch is widely accepted. It is also very useful and hassle-free for purchasing over the internet.

Getting a Switch card can prove to be quite difficult on it's own... a few banks require there to be a minimum amount passing through your bank account on a monthly basis for you to acquire the card. Check with your own bank though!
