Advantages: Good if you opt for deals
Disadvantages: Poor if you use it for food
The Tesco clubcard is a loyalty rewards scheme for those shoppers who spend their money in the store. I'm not entirely sure if this is the category for the loyalty card or the credit card so I will talk about both as I have a combined credit card that also acts as a rewards card.
For every pound that you spend in a tesco store you receive one clubcard point and a hundred points is worth one pound. Now this may not sound like a great reward however once a quarter Tesco convert these points into vouchers with a monetary value. You can then redeem these vouchers towards the cost of your shopping at their face value. However if you use them to purchasewhat are called Tesco clubcard deals then you get four times the face value so effectively it can either be a 1% reward scheme or a 4% scheme.
The deals are for a wide variety of things from days out to Alton Towers, air miles, magazine subscriptions or activity days. You can even use them to pay fully or partly for RAC cover or National Trust membership. There are certain conditions that apply such as with holidays a minumium spend of £500 but we have used ours to trips to amusement parks and also for a trip on Eurostar which was great value.
As well as points on food they can also be earned buying petrol and a number of linked products such as tesco car insurance. With your clubcard stetment you may also get additional bonus points for buying certain items.
Applying is easy just pick up a leaflet from the store. If you also opt for the credit card then you get a further point for every two pounds you spend on any items either with Tesco or outside. It operates no different to any other credi card.
Summary: Loyalty reward scheme for Tesco.
