Advantages: Clubcard deals make for great savings
Disadvantages: None that I can think of!
We've had our tesco clubcard for some time now and love the way this scheme works! The card is easy to apply for, just fill out a form in store and the card will be with you soon! Any shopping you do in the meanwhile is not wasted in terms of points though as the points, I believe, can be added when the card arrives! Your card is sent to you along with 2 key fobs, these are great for going on your keyring meaning you always have your clubcard with you! Points are accrued for every pound you spend (£1 = 1 point) and you can also get bonus clubcard points occasionally with products too! Each point though is only given for each complete pound spent so £7.99 would only give you 7 points! Vouchers are sent out quarterly although if you join their christmas club then all the vouchers are sent out in November! Along with the vouchers you are also given vouchers for other money off offers or bonus points (eg 25 points for a minimum spend on eggs or money off veg or something!) and you're also given a breakdown of how you've accrued your points!
Clubcard points are not only awarded for shopping in store though, you can also accrue points if you shop on line too! If you go for this option you can also select to have your offers sent to you in the form of e-coupons so that you can use them with your on-line shopping, default method though is store shopping and, once issued, they cannot be swapped for on-line vouchers so do change this if you need to! Oddly, our vouchers weren't e-vouchers this time so I need to find out why considering the last couple of lots have been with no problem!
Points can be accrued with petrol too - even if you go for the pay at the pump option as your card can either be swiped or scanned (handy to use the keyfob one for this and just scan it!). Likewise if you take out their broadband or one of the many insurance schemes they offer, you get bonus points too - quite some number from what I remember, we got 1000 points for signing up to their broadband for example! Tesco direct also allows you to accrue points, when our washing machine needed replacing a couple of years ago we found the one we wanted at a very competative price on tesco direct with the added bonus of a lot of extra clubcard points!
There are a number of clubs you can join too - we are a member of the baby club and every 3 months I get sent an age relevant book with information about things which are appropriate for a baby the same age as ours and also further vouchers for points for nappies, wipes, non-bio washing powder etc! Only downside with these is they all tend to be for pampers/huggies etc and not for the Nature babycare range we use! But nevermind! There usually is a voucher for bonus points when you spend £20 on baby essentials so we get points with that!
We are saving up our vouchers to use in a deal, these make your voucher go "4 times further" according to the website! They have hundreds of offers here - whether it's for days out, meals in restaurants, airmiles, magazine subscriptions to even buying some jewellery or a years' membership with the RAC, for every £1 you have in a clubcard voucher it gives you £4 in deals vouchers which is pretty good! So a years' membership with the RAC for eample for roadside, recovery and onward travel would cost £34.75 in clubcard vouchers instead of £119.75 if you paid directly which is a great saving! Personally I think it makes more sense to use the vouchers in this way as the savings are so much more!
On the whole it's a great scheme and well worth signing up to!
Summary: A great way to earn extra points and save money on deals!
