Advantages: Clubcard deals are usually worth 4 times the value of the voucher

Disadvantages: None

This is a card I have held for years and have saved an amazing amount of money using! It never leaves my purse - except to scan at the checkout. When they sent new cards out recently they also send key fob cards which I have attached to my car keys.

They are easy to apply for and usually have forms near the checkouts, you fill in the form, take the temporary card out and can give the form to the cashier. A few weeks later you will receive your plastic card and all the points you have collected on the temporary one will be on your new card.

You receive 1 point for every £1 you spend in store or on line. You also receive 1 point for every bag you bring to the store with you to do your shopping, or a point every time you buy a bag for life or reusable bag - these are called green club card points but still count towards your total points.

You get statements through the post 4 times a year the next one is due in November then in February, May and August when your points are changed into a voucher that you can spend in store or on club card deals. You can also opt to only receive the vouchers once a year in November to help towards your Christmas shopping, you will still receive the extra points vouchers throughout the year.

The vouchers you get are for extra points for things you will like and things they hope you will like. I usually get extra points vouchers for bread, dairy, fruit/veg and then a random one for a cereal or mouthwash. Either way I do try to use them all as they do add a good amount of points onto your card.

For ages I just used to spend the vouchers in store on my shopping without thinking about it, it was only when a friend said she had saved her vouchers and gone on a family day out for free with them that I actually looked at the club card deals leaflet that came with my statement.

Since then I have used my points to throw a child's birthday party at a bowling alley, have gone to Longleat twice, Sea Life centre, had a holiday in Butlins, paid for a magazine subscription, had meals out, gone ice skating (ok i am lying I only watched!!!)...... so many other things and family days out it is really wonderful.

We all have to shop and you really do get things with your club card for just doing what you have to do!

I can not recommend getting a club card enough to anyone, even if you don't shop in Tesco that often - when I first got mine I did not live that close to a Tesco so it was a once a month big shop usually that i would do there so would not get many points but it was still nice getting a bit of money off my shopping.

Even if you don't want to use your tokens to have days out (even though most of the time they are worth 4 times the value! for example you get a £10 days out token for a £2.50 clubcard voucher) you can still use them to save some money shopping.

Summary: Everyone who shops in Tesco's should get one
