Advantages: no hassle
Disadvantages: nothing
I have a tesco clubcard, and although I never use the actual card, I have registered the number online a few years ago.
I only use the online shopping as there isnt a tescos within bus distance of me, and its easier when getting a large shop than trying to carry it home.
To register your card online just go to online shopping at tesco.com and enter all your details including your card number.
Another useful thing is to change the setting for your clubcard vouchers. Change it from in the shop, to online codes. Therefore when you do your online shop you can get money off online.
The clubcard is quite good if you shop a lot at tesco or at any of the affiliates that it mentions on your statement. It gives you 1point per pound, so say you did a £60 shop you get 60points. If you get online delivery, select delivery without bags, you get an extra point for every bag saved.
You can either spend these points back in store, they get collected quarterly and you get vouchers or code numbers in the post.
The other way to spend them is on days out, holidays or other things that are nothing to do with food shopping. They change regularly so check the website for what they offer. Things I have seen advertised included a balloon flight, chessington half price tickets and flights. Each point is worth 4 when you use it like this. So say you had 4 points, they would be worth 16 points.
Its well worth having a tesco clubcard, sainsburys nectar card and all points cards that you can get as they all add up and you might end up in a sainsburys one day and regret not getting money back on your purchases.
Summary: always have it with you
