Advantages: Relatively easy to amass a lot of points, can be used for days out and more

Disadvantages: Tesco can collect a lot of data easily for whatever purpose

Tesco clubcard has been around for a few years now and of course there are pros and cons to it. I guess the biggest disadvantage would be the whole 'big brother' is watching. After all each time you use the card it allows Tesco and whoever they might pass the information to a massive amount of information about what you buy and how much you spend allowing them to target you as they seem fit. However the benefit is of course that you earn points on your shopping without spending any extra. Generally you earn a point per £1 which is worth a penny. Not much short term but there are deals to be had. If you register on the Tesco website you can sign up to a variety of clubs such as healthy living, wine etc which means that at least once a quarter you get a mailing from them usually with money off or extra point coupons. Also quarterly you receive your mailing with all your points you've accumulated. These vouchers can be used as money off shopping or can be used for 'deals' which are worth 4x the face value, which can go towards days out such as Alton Towers, Zoos, dining out and even holidays from Virgin and Cosmos. There are ways of gaining extra points which can be found on several money saving websites. I have only become a 'serious' collector in the last 18 months but I have recently booked a holiday to Florida which has been paid for completely with club card deals so it can be done with a bit of commitment!

Summary: Supermarket loyalty scheme where it possible to get big rewards.
