Advantages: A good way of saving for xmas
Disadvantages: No good if you don't do most of your shopping at Tesco
Although I do some of my shopping in other supermarkets, the majority of my shopping is done at Tesco. I have been using my Tesco Clubcard for a good number of years.
Unlike my Boots Advantage Card, which gives four points for every £1 that I spend, my Tesco Clubcard only gives me 1 point for each £1 that I spend. But there is a lot more to my Tesco Clubcard.
I collect 1 point for each £1 that I spend at Tesco, Tesco Direct and Tesco Petrol Station. If I use my own bags for my shopping I collect 2 greencard points for each bag I use. If it is an extra large bag then I collect 4 greencard points. I find that these points build up quickly.
Every three months Tesco send out shopping vouchers to the value of my points and greencard points. With my vouchers I also receive money off coupons for products that I usually buy. For example this could be 25p off Flora, or 50p off Yoghurts. I usually get around six coupons.
If I want I can also use my vouchers for passes to Legoland, Alton Towers and various other theme parks. I can also use them for Air Miles. If I use my vouchers for any of the above, my vouchers are worth four times as much. Each £1 in vouchers becomes £4. I have never done this but my daughter has and she said she had no problem with it.
Tesco also allow me to save my clubcard points up throughout the year and then collect them all before Christmas.
This year for the first time Tesco brought out a new scheme, whereby you can add your own money to your clubcard. All I had to do was to add a few pounds ( you can add any amount from 50p upwards) to what Tesco call their 'xmas top up'. I did this at the checkout when I was paying for my shopping and I was given a receipt which included my balance to date.
I have done this throughout this year, adding a few pounds each time I was shopping. My vouchers have just arrived and I received my normal clubcard vouchers plus what I had added to my xmas top up. I had managed to save over £100, therefore I qualified for my £5 bonus voucher.
I will be using my vouchers for my shopping over the festive season.
As I do my shopping at Tesco, this suits me very well and I will definitely be doing the same again next year.
I also received a small book of vouchers, which if I used them all would save me £50. There are some I will use and some that I probably won't. The one's I do use will save me some money.
Summary: It works well for me........

- 03/01/09 I didn't know they give you 4 points for using extra large bags! Thanks for the review, Rachael. |

- 19/11/08 I've been saving my points this year and now have over £200 in vouchers to put towards a holiday! They're valid until 2010 so I hope to have another £400+ by then to contribute to an HonestBob family holiday. Great stuff! |
