Advantages: Rewards you for buying essentials you spend on anyway

Disadvantages: Have to wait for vouchers to spend points

Probably the second best loyalty scheme after Boots advantage Card. Generally people with a Tesco Clubcard shop in Tesco for their grocery shopping so tend to accumulate points rather quickly, so even though it's just a point per £1 spend, you see the rewards relatively quickly. They send you your money you've earned through collecting points in the form of vouchers 4 times a year and you can spend these on anything instore. Along with thses they also send you vouchers for bonus points or money off shopping for the things that you buy regulary anyway. Even things such as milk, bread and fruit and veg. They really are rewarding your custom by doing that rather than vouchers to just tempt you to spend on items you don't want. The money vouchers you earn have an extemely long date on them so many people save them up throughout the year and spend them on pressies to help ease the bills at christmas. Also you get clubcard points on petrol too.. which can work out to be quite a saving if you always fill up at Tesco!

Summary: The best supermarket loyalty scheme

I cut up my Tesco card recently. I was already annoyed because my local branch doesn't have a petrol station (nearest is 40 miles away) and wouldn't allow me to trade the (by then substantial) points for anything else.

Crunch came when I spend almost £1000 on computer equipment. The very next day, I received a voucher in the post that should have been sent out a month before - in fact the 30-day voucher only had a couple of days left to run. It would have saved me a lot on the purchase - but when I presented it with my receipt they flat refused to honour it - they weren't even polite. I was too late and that was that. Half a dozen other high street shops confirmed they'd have had no problem redeeming a voucher under such circumstances.

I'm afraid neither Tesco or their cards are favourite with me right now.
