What can I say- I love my Tesco club card!

First of all, the best thing about it is that its completely free, it has no gimmicks and is, (appropiately as it is a supermarket card) 'exactly what it says on the tin'

I got my club card a few months ago now, just as I turned 18- you must be 18 to be a cardholder although I know that often parents buy them and then give them to their children to take out with them as this can rack up the points easily. I received my first statement (which gets posted to you 4 times a year) last week and was very happy to find that I had over 700 points!

You get a standard 1 point per £1 spent, plus sometimes there are special offers where you can get double club card points if you buy certain items (the other day it was on my favourite Tesco Finest fish pie meal! Yay!) And also, which is where I get the extra points from- getting 1 green clubcard point every time I re-use one of my Tesco re-usable bags, so on average I get about an extra 5 points a week which does tend to add up over a long period of time- always a good thing!!

You can simply 'cash in' your points for Tesco Vouchers, you can get £1 off your shopping per 100 points acquired so I could get £7 off my next shop. I can see this being a great option for someone that spends a lot on food and is definitely a loyal Tesco customer!

On the other hand, which in my opinion is a lot better- you can use your club card points, in the same way as the Nectar scheme, on 'club card deals'
There is a wide range of deals to choose from, so I can pretty much guarantee that there will be something that you can use it on.

The categories of deals on the website really show the diverse choice: Activity Days, Air Miles, Annual Memberships, Book Sets, Cinemas, Days Out, Essentials, European Attractions, Exhibitions & Events, Green Deals, Health & Fitness, Holidays, Jewellery, Learning, Magazine Subscriptions, Motoring, Restaurants & Bars, Software Packages, Sporting Events, Theatre Shows, Travel and Weekend Breaks (Hotels)! PHEW! Told you there was a lot of choice!

I think this clubcard would be brilliant to get, especially for a large family that does a LOT of food shopping (I come from a family of 5 children and I know how much we eat!!) and especially if you do the main part of your shopping in Tesco anyway. The card is not bulky, mine is quite small and has a little hole where I have attached it to my keys, this means that I don't forget my clubcard when I go shopping and I can easily swipe it myself at the self-service check out without having to fumble around in my purse/bag trying to find it!

The only downside of the scheme that I can see, is that I think that the Clubcard website needs a makeover! It looks a bit old-fashioned and not very navigable at times. I think it would be great, (if they already have this on the website then I can't find it), to have a small box on the website where you can simply type your amount of club card points, and perhaps tick some boxes to show which type of deals you are interested in, and then the search box could do the work for you and come up with some ideas on what you could spend it on? (Only an idea of my own!)

In conclusion, I think its a great card to have- especially if you are already a frequent Tesco customer as although it can seem only a small amount of points compared to some of the offers that are available from schemes such as from Boots, a lot of money is spent on food over time and these points do add up without you even thinking about it- and its a very nice surprise when you receive your club card statement after a few months :)

Always best to use the points for deals as they are worth 4 times as much! Ann
