Advantages: great rewards scheme with huge variety of spending oppertunities

Disadvantages: you give all yoru money to tesco and allow them to take over the world!

Tesco Clubcard is a great way to save some money for a treat. My husband and I have been using it religiously for about 7 years now.


What points do you earn?
For every £1 you spend in Tesco you get 1 point. For 100 points you get a £1 voucher. You also get points for re-using bags - i think there is a different number of "green"points for different bag types but don't quote me on this!

Using the credit card you get 5 points for every £4 spent in Tesco, and 1 point for every £4 spent elsewhere.

Quickest way to earn points:
Do all your grocery shopping at Tescos, also buy all your petrol there. We also have a credit card from Tesco's which we spend all of our outgoings every month on it, and then pay it off in full when the bill comes. This way you get the benefit of LOADS of points, you get to keep your money in the bank so may get a little extra interest on it, and you don't get charged anything for using the credit card - no interest when you pay it off in full every month.

What can I use my points on?
Tesco have a lot of companies signed up to their rewards program. A few years ago we used £125 of Tesco vouchers... at this time MFI was in on the scheme, and they offered 4 times the value of the vouchers... we bought a brand new mattress for £500.

This year we have saved up our points and we are paying for our holiday - we were giong to hire a caravan in Cornwall, but now my mum and dad and sister and her fiancee are also coming along we have all clubbed togerther with our vouchers and have managed to book a villa on a holiday site. - the holiday is worth £1200 but we also got 4 times the value of the vouchers for this holiday, so we all put in 100 pounds of vouchers per couple.
