Advantages: Deals worth 4x voucher value
Disadvantages: Keep an eye on points and spending
I am not a regular shopper at Tesco as I tend to use local shops more often as I'm not a fan of the national corporations, however, I am more than willing to milk their clubcard system for all its worth.
I use a Tesco Clubcard credit card, which gives me points on all my purchases and not just the ones I make at Tesco. Whatever I buy on the credit card, I ensure that I pay the balance in full every month and that I never pay a penny interest to Tesco (or RBS).
I also get extra points just for using the Tesco Clubcard credit card instore, but I am not foolish when it comes to this either!
Every month, a clubcard statement is sent through, with vouchers for all your clubcard points that you can redeem in store. Along with these vouchers are coupons that give you extra points when buying everyday items, such as 25 extra points when you buy bread, 15 points when you buy milk and even deals like 500 points when you make a larger purchase such as an electrical item or a baby item. There are also offers instore and online that will give you bonus points for purchasing certain things.
Buying only the items that are on offer, or that give me hundreds of extra points when I shop, and then using the Tesco Clubcard Credit card to pay is the best way to rack up hundreds of points without giving Tesco too much out of your own pocket.
I always use tesco petrol stations, as once again, I rack up points from the fuel and from the Tesco credit card. I always offer to take other family members cars to fill up, as they give me the cash and I crank those points up!
When my Tesco clubcard vouchers arrive each month, I usually have about £30 or £40 in vouchers to use. This is great, but this is not where the money saving stops!
I then use the vouchers to exchange online for clubcard deals. This gives me four times the value of the voucher for things such as eating out, holidays and daytrips. I can get over £100 worth of deals a month.
So, from only spending a small amount at Tesco each month, I manage to get far more from them than I actually put in.
If you don't use the clubcard vouchers or points to their maximum potential then you will spend more at Tesco than you get back, but if you are wise and keep watching the points you will actually find that Tesco are paying you!
If you like loyalty cards without being loyal, then Tesco points are the way forward!
Summary: Shop locally, save your local business - Take Tesco for a ride!
