Advantages: Tailor made savings
Disadvantages: None
I am not normally one to go in for club cards or points schemes like the Tesco Club Card but I was recommended to this by my mother in law and have not been disappointed by it. There are so many benefits to the Tesco Club Card that you maybe wouldn't expect and some of these have really worked to my benefit.
First and foremost, the Tesco Club Card gives you 1p to the £1. What this means is that if you buy something in any Tesco store for £5 you be given 5p towards your next vouchers. These vouchers are posted out to you roughly once a quarter and always bring a smile to my face as I have regularly hit £40+ on my vouchers for the last 3 years. This comes in very handy as it is essentially free money for swiping your card for things you were going to buy anyway. Surely nobody would say no to free money. Added to this is the fact that offers are run all the time to give you extra points. The most beneficial offer of this kind for me is the double points on all petrol offer. This essentially knocks 2p off the litre price as that is set at around £1 so really adds up when you consider I put £40 per week in my car.
Once the vouchers hit your letterbox you are also greeted by selected vouchers that are tailored to what you normally buy on your weekly shop. For instance, Tesco know that I buy a lot of nappies for my daughter, so they very cleverly offer one off bulk club points bonus vouchers for these products. Sometimes these can be as much as 200 points which is £2.00 for my next nappies purchase. Obviously you have to pay the full amount at the time but you get it back quarterly with the money off vouchers.
Another really good aspect that is a nice touch is that, seemingly randomly, when you pay for your shopping there is every chance that you could be presented with a voucher on the spot. This is usually £2 or £3 off of your next purchase of a certain item that, through using your club card, the system knows you buy a lot of. Every little really does help.
This club card recognising what you buy technology is used really well on the web site where you can easily bring up a list of your items that you usually buy and can quickly do your shopping from that. This is a much underused benefit from my point of view as I like to go to the actual store, but it is impressive never the less.
Summary: The premier loyalty scheme

- 01/06/09 We have nearly £200 in deals tokens now and we're going to use them for a holiday, so I think they are a great deal. Surprised you didn't mention the new Double Points thing in store though, as they are really promoting it. |
