Advantages: Club card deals - get 4 times the value of your points
Disadvantages: No use if you don't shop in Tesco ;-)
I have held a clubcard for as long as I can remember and Tesco have been very clever and evolving the clubcard and its points to offer more and more to its customers.
If you shop in Tesco no matter how often it is worth signing up for their clubcard. You can do it in the store before you leave and they will post you the card. You present it at the checkout as you pay and earn 1 point for each £1 you spend. The card can also be used on their website and as part of tesco direct purchases and on petrol.
Every quarter you receive a mailing with your money off vouchers and some extra money off coupons based on your shopping habits. I used to use these vouchers to get a free weeks shop but there is a much smarter way of spending them: clubcard deals.
Information on clubcard deals is available in their mailings or on their website. Usually you can exchange your clubcard tokens for 4 times their value (e.g. we exchanged £25 of tokens for £100 eurotunnel vouchers for our summer holiday). The choice of shops and activities you can exchange on is huge from entertainment and theme parks, hotels, shops like Goldsmiths the jewellers, holidays.
I save up a years worth of vouchers and then spend them on something bigger. It is a great way of getting something more for your money.
If you have a tesco finance credit card then you can earn 2 points for every £1 spent. And you earn points for using it in shops other than tesco. Spend your usual monthly shopping etc. on it and you have a bonus at the end of the year for doing nothing!
If you recycle carrier bags or use their bags for life you can also get green clubcard points. The clubcard vouchers last a couple of years so you don't have to worry about them having to be used straight away. Although the money off coupons and extras usually have to be used within a few weeks.
An excellent idea especially if you use the clubcard deals.
Summary: If you regularly use tesco sign up for these they do save you money

- 02/07/09 I didn't know that meggysmum about changing them back to points - cheers for that tip! |

- 01/07/09 I use Tesco for my main shopping and have a Tesco credit card too. Its amazing how the points mount up. I change a lot for "days out " vouchers for the summer. If you don't use them you can change them back to points before the expiry date--only found that out last year! x |
