Advantages: Can be spent for family days out allowing you to save money!
Disadvantages: None
We have had some great family days out thanks to Tesco Clubcard!
***How Clubcard Works***
With a Clubcard you get 1 point for every £1 you spend in store, online, petrol and tesco direct. For every 100 points you collect you get £1.00 back. These points are then stored and added to and Tesco send you your vouchers every quarter. You can also earn points if you have a tesco mobile and top up or if you have a Tesco Credit Card. With a Tesco credit card you get 1 point per £4 you spend on your card anywhere or 2 points per £1 if you use your card in Tesco.
***How to make the most of clubcard***
If you shop in Tesco regularly obviously you will get more back especially if you look for the deals that are often on, such as now, double up on points, meaning 2 points for every £1 spent. However, you can still make more points. Here are a couple of ways.
When shopping look at for the bonus points that are on some products sometimes you will be lucky enough to find them on your regular brand if not sometimes it is worth switching just this once for the points. I don't make loads this way as they are far and few between but I sometimes make some and they all add up!
When you receive your clubcard statement/vouchers have a look at the the clubcard bonus coupons, these are often aimed at products you purchase regularly or have purchased in the past.
If you like to do you shopping on the internet search the internet for i-coupons. I have done this quite a bit - it does take some hunting but it can be worth it. Last time I did an internet shop I found a code for 1000 points when you spend over £50 online - so that works out at £10 on top of what I earned from doing my shopping.
Another way is by yourself and any other members in your household getting their petrol from Tesco every single time you fill up. The amount of petrol myself and husband put in our cars every month has become a nice little point earner for us.
***Spending***
There are a multitude of ways to spend your vouchers when they arrive and how you choose the spend them I always think depends on your personal circumstances.
You can choose to spend the vouchers by putting them towards your shopping and get money off your shopping. Recently they did a double up so if you had £10 worth of vouchers they would give you £20. Alternatively if these offers are not on you can save up your annual vouchers and put them towards the dreaded Christmas food/Alcohol bill. They can also be spent towards clothing or Tesco Direct.
The way I choose to spend mine is to use the partner reward schemes. This pays for days out for myself and my family where you can get up to 4 times as much. For example £15 can be turned into £60. They have a wide range of partners available for you to spend them on. You can put them towards Theme Park tickets, magazine subscriptions, annual memberships, hotels and holidays just to name a few.
Recently I have used mine to take my children out twice during the main summer holidays and to take the whole family out for the day to Thinktank in Birmingham and then out for dinner afterwards, and I still have vouchers left to spend!
In the current climate I think they are one of the best rewards schemes out there and can save a family an awful lot of money - I know it has us!
Summary: A great reward scheme even for those that don't use it regularly the vouchers last for ages

- 02/11/09 Hi - you've described the Clubcard and how it works very well, but that's not really what I think constitutes a review.
I think it's important to consider, with any loyalty scheme, what the real value is and how it might work both ways. What do Tesco get out of this? How do they use your data?
How does this work on an individual level? So, does the Clubcard system recognise what you buy and when and try and help you save money on the right things?
What about experiences of using the card with other retailers? Still good value? Always get your points?
What do you do when things go wrong?
Just a few thoughts on what would have made this more useful to me. |

- 02/11/09 I use my Tesco C/C like aswitch card and pay of in full each month - its a great way to rack up the clubcard points even if you only get 1point for every £4 spent not in Tesco. Good review. |
