Advantages: seemingly not
Disadvantages: out of body experiences
Fancy an out of body experience? You can have one free with Tesco's. Confident that I would get a new credit card with Airmiles - I've got no debt records, bad financial history - I sent of for one, as I am already a Tesco Club Card holder. And within a week - I received a letter saying I couldn't have one. If I wanted to find out why I would have to pay £2 to find out. Feeling puzzled I rang up to find out why. In fact the problem is that I don't exist. Neither does my address. My credit's fine but as I'm not actually here I'm not going to get any. Extraordinarily.... even though I could read out the letter that was delivered to my address to let me know of their decision over the telephone... it was no good - I just don't exist. Apparently I am not on the voter's list - I am, and neither is my husband - he is. My house has been here since the 1960's. Even more strangely I also have other credit cards. Sadly, to Tesco's I only exist as a Club card member. I know - I checked with Tesco Customer complaints and they checked with their computer and there I was. Even more sadly for the Tesco operative who checked the info for me, he didn't exist either, according to Tesco Financial Services, (yes he'd applied for a card too). I only hope they pay him. In fact, as Oxford professors seem to be currently quizzing their intake into life's perplexing little problems, perhaps they could run this past their would-be philosophy students. Q I do not exist - therefore I can no longer shop at Tesco's. Explain. BUT...... Bright light ahead. Anyone experiencing difficulties in just being should contact: Fay Hogg 0131 523 9001, who does exist and is seemingly very helpful.

- 08/04/02 This may have something to do with the new rules that prevent local authorities from releasing electoral roll information to credit referencing agencies. Sounds to me like they need to find a new way of verifying address details....and quickly. |

- 03/04/02 How weird, still it is their loss, I am sure you will be able to get another card elsewhere.
They wouldn't give me a card a few years ago, and I worked for them. They didn't appreciate me asking if the problem was that my employer paid poorly! |

Thanks for sharing the experience but a bit more about the card (such as interest rates) for those who might be able to get one would be helpful. |
