The Body Shop Love Your Body Card
Advantages: Get freebies and 10% off.
Disadvantages: Can only collect stamps in store.
I started regularly shopping at the Body Shop a couple of years ago. I have a local store in a nearby small town as well as one in my nearest city. I also use the online shop very often, especially when there are any special sales or offers. Although I'd heard of the Body shop's 'Love Your Body' loyalty card scheme it had never really interested me until I was offered one when purchasing goods in store and told how discount would qualify. The store assistant made it sound very attractive and worthwhile to me so I got one.
The card actually costs £5 which might seem like a lot to pay to join a loyalty scheme. However this initial cost is then reclaimed in a way because of the benefits of the card. The card provides a 10% discount every time you buy something in store or online. If you buy online you can input your card details into your account page and then the 10% reduction comes off automatically as you go through the checkout process. The 10% discount online only applies to products which don't have any other offer attached to their sale though. Each individual card has a personal barcode and number for identification as well as being marked with your name and birth date. Within a day of picking up mine in store I was able to input my card number online to use instantly.
If you buy in store using the card you can earn a 'stamp' which contributes towards a loyalty reward. You must buy £10 worth of products to get your stamp. If you get four stamps you are entitled to a free gift from the store worth up to £5. If you collect ten stamps you get a free gift worth up to £10 from the store. I assume purchases are recorded electronically but on the card they are just marked by a cross with a marker pen. Unfortunately online purchases don't count towards this - you have to buy in an actual high street store to gain your stamp. I wish this was not the case as I prefer shopping online.
Another major benefit of the card concerns the fact that when you join up you have to give your date of birth. This is then written on the card. In the month of your birthday you can take your card into your nearest store and claim a free treat up to the value of £5. Hence the value of the card can be reclaimed in Bodyshop products. This is a great incentive!
The 'Love Your Body' card is valid for a year after signing up. I think it's worth getting the card if like me you are a real fan of the store and can't stop spending money there! I would prefer if the percentage of deduction was slightly increased as I think 10% isn't a huge amount. Bodyshop goods tend to be more expensive than in other stores so the reduction sometimes isn't hugely significant. However, I like the stamp collection and birthday freebie. This makes the card worthwhile for me.
If you are a person who makes shopping choices based on the ethics of a company then I think opting to get this card would be a great move. I have actually found myself going to the store more often in order to try and fulfil my stamp collection. This isn't a bad thing though when the products are not tested on animals and are sourced from Fair Trade and environmentally safeguarded ingredients.
I would recommend this card if you are a regular shopper at the Bodyshop. Even if you only shop there for gifts the card could be useful to you. You can buy the card in store or online.
Summary: Worth it if you a regular customer at the Bodyshop stores.
