Advantages: Avoid charges when paying for flights with Electron

Disadvantages: Not accepted in a lot of places

I have a Barclays Visa Electron card and i had to request it and this was only for one reason! With some online flight providers (which i regularly use) you pay a hefty credit card charge if you use anything other than Electron card to pay. This includes all credit cards and any other debit cards and they will fine you around £15 per ticket if you want to pay with these.

But for some reason (unbeknown to me!) if you use an Electron card to pay there are no added charges. So i went into Barlcays and set up a basic account with an Electron card and if i'm paying for flights online i simply ensure i have enough cleared funds in the account.

That said i never use the electron card for anything else and if it is the only card you have i can imagine it can be quite frustrating as many places (particularly petrol stations!) don't accept electron.

Summary: I only use mine to buy flights and don't recommend it otherwise
