Advantages: Free, Minimum spend only £1, 2% return, can use points whenever you wish, in any amount, points for every 10p you spend, so more worthwhile that the usual 1 point for every pound schemes, can be any age to get one

Disadvantages: They stopped having holograms on the cards (mine has one, and it's about 3-4 years old, i.e. when they had only just come out!), 2% return is less than Boots, minimum spend £1 (if you're buying something under £1 it's a bit annoying!)

The WHSmith clubcard rewards you every time you spend over £1.00 at WHSmith. You get 1 point for every 10p you spend, and each point is worth 0.2p. In other words you get 2p back for every £1.00 you spend, or 2%. This is above the rate that you get at places such as Tesco and Sainsburys, where you only get 1p per pound, or 1%. However it is below the other major high street chain with a loyalty card, Boots, which offers an excellent 4%, with NO minimum spend and the points rounded up.

One of the great adantages of Smith's card is that you can use as much or as little of the points whenever you want, instantly, against purchases at the till. With most loyalty cards, you have to wait a while for your vouchers to come and they are in fixed amounts. You can just use the card for £1 off, 47p, £5.69, or whatever you wish, whenever you wish.

You can also sometimes earn bonus points on certain products, which can be worth anything from 50p upto a few pounds.

My advice is that even if, like myself, you only occasionally shop at WHSmith, you might as well have one of these cards as you won't lose anything, and you will always gain on anything that costs over £1 (which, let's face it, is nearly everything these days!).

this is an excellent explanation of what the WH smith clubcard is all about. Everytime i buy something from that store i always get asked about whether or not i have got a card. i have never had the urge to get a card as i have never really known what they are all about but next time i am in there i will certainly be signing up for one
