Pyrex Casserole Dish
by xxfoxyredxx
With my love and appreciation of all things Pyrex, plus my boyfriend who is a chef liking it I was, I have to admit reluctant to buy this certain thing. I own a slow cooker which I love but looking on Amazon and me having a spend up on some new kitchen stuff my boyfriend convinced me to buy this and so I did!
These comes in ... many varying sizes of course all varying in prices to. I got us the rather large 2L one of this so we could cook more in it and even freeze it in this dish and reheat it in the microwave and so on and it cost me the princely sum on said Amazon of about £8.50 including postage and packaging. I have to admit to wincing at the price slightly but I knew I was paying that much for a high quality item and one that would really last.
The Dish:
Well its round with a lid that safely slides on top of it that integrated handles. My dish is very deep but of course it does very much depend on the size you want. Its made of Borosilicate Glass which is a rather thick glass that is tough and robust and you do get a 10 year guarantee with this against manufacturers defects. Although this isn't entirely unbreakable it is a very strong item this and I knock mine about and allsorts and its been completely fine thankfully!
You can use this in the dishwasher, microwave, fridge and even the freezer. It doesn't retain any flavours within it and I haven't found it to stain and I wash mine up by hand, give it a good scrub and no marks have appeared on it at all over time.
My boyfriend uses this the most to make casseroles, shepherds pie and even curries from scratch. Its great that it is fridge and freezer safe cos all I do with the leftovers then is allow them to go back to room temperature and then zap it in the microwave...its just a really good versatile product this one the only issue I have with it though is when its full of food it all gets a bit too heavy for me but hey I leave my boyfriend to do the heavy lifting.
All in all this is a great Pyrex dish and since buying this one I have bought a couple more. I have a smaller one that is perfect for just me on my own as well and I highly recommend them as they are so tough and hard wearing.

Le Creuset Grillit
by Ninski1
I have a number of Le Creuset items and this is a great addition to my collection. I have the pan in Almond and it is 26cm in diameter, it is square, made from cast iron, which means it is very heavy and I purchased mine in a 40% off sale at Debenhams a few years ago, they currently retail for around £60 on Amazon (September ... 2012).
The Grillit has a black interior and has ribbed lines running along it so when you use it you get char lines along your food. The interior has a satin black finish that is not shiny and it is specifically designed to give excellent cooking results, providing it is used correctly. The Grillit can be used for almost anything from meat to vegetables. The interior of the pan will keep its finish and as you use it it develops what is called a 'patina', which is basically a blackish film that results from the oils used in cooking and the juices of cooking, these should not be cleaned off, as they add to the flavour and performance of your cooking.
I mostly cook vegetables on my Grillit, particularly corn on the cob. I use my pan by first putting it on the gas hob and leaving it to heat up, this takes around 3 minutes, I then brush the interior with oil using a silicon pastry brush and put the corn on the cobs on the Grillit, I leave them until they smell as if they are about the burn and then turn them over, this gives the cobs a great char line and BBQ smokiness in taste.
After I have finished using the Grillit, I leave it to cool on the hob, it is best to put the Grillit on a suitable surface as it will scorch or damage your work top. I then gently wipe it with a damp cloth, being careful not to remove the 'patina' I have developed. If you find that you have brunt your food or add too much oil, you can clean the pan gently with a non abrasive cloth and hot, slightly soapy water. The Girllit also come with a 25 year guarantee, you just need to fill in the form that comes with Grillit and send it off to Le Creuset.
Overall I would recommend the Grillit to others, as it works well, leaves food looking great, and is easy to use, the only downside is that it is very heavy and it is expensive, so for that reason alone it looses 1 star.

Stellar TraditionalTeapot
by karlsm93
When we got married, even though we had a wedding list, we received additional gifts that weren't on the list that were extremely useful and that we hadn't even thought of! One such gift was a set of two Stellar teapots and milk jugs in different sizes. Rather than the teapot shown above, the one that I received in two different sizes, ... is the Stellar Art Deco Traditonal Teapot. I have this teapot in the 0.9L and the 1.2 L sizes, each costing between £30 and £40 in the likes of amazon, but I know that mine were bought locally in a department store, so prices may vary. They aren't cheap, but you should in turn get a long lasting perfect pouring teapot so it may be worth spending the extra!
This Art Deco Traditional Teapot has slightly sharper lines in terms of the position of the handle and spout in comparison to the picture above but like all Stellar teapots, this one is made from stainless steel so it is very attractive looking when you bring it out. I use this teapot both as an everyday teapot if we had family round, but also has a fancy teapot if we had friends round and it suits both purposes, probably because of the design and the stainless steel finish.
The lid is different from that shown above in that it has a push lid rather than a flip lid, which to be honest, I much prefer. Never once have I had a problem either opening the lid or closing the lid, and it always stays in place securely, so I don't have to worry when pouring the teapot that any tea will seep out of the lid or that that lid will fall off.
Stellar provides a lifetime guarantee on its products, and I have had this product for well over 5 years now and it is still going as strong as ever! It is reassuring however that should there be any problems with this, I have the back up of the guarantee, especially given the price of these teapots.
Probably the best thing about this teapot, and what makes it stand out from many cheaper teapots is that is does NOT leak. It has never leaked any time I have used it, and to be honest at the price which was paid for it, I wouldn't expect it to leak, but it is nice to know that you can use this teapot without having to have a cloth at hand to wipe up spillages as you pour. It also is a smooth pouring spout, so it is easy to pour a nice cup of tea.
The final positive about this teapot is that although you may have hot tea inside, you can hold the handle without any fear of burning yourself, or any need to have a glove on.
All in all, there is no doubt that you would be hard pressed to find a better teapot. One that does casual and formal occasions, that pours perfectly, doesn't leak, can be held without getting your hand burnt, and looks the part! Expensive but worth it! Read the complete review |
