Keep Calm and Carry On Red Mug
by kama0529 The Keep Calm and Carry On Red Mug was bought for me by a work colleague after I jokingly pointed out that I didn't have a special work mug. I don't know how much she paid for it, but I note that it is currently on Amazon for £4.46. I think this is an okay price, although I have seen in the shops that they can cost quite a bit more than ... this. The "Keep Calm and Carry On" logo obviously goes back to WWII and it has become popular again in the last few years - maybe because it is so apt to so many situations. The mug is red and has the "Keep Calm and Carry On" logo printed on the front of the mug, with a picture of a crown also. The inside of the mug is white and the handle is also white. It has a basic design, but it is partly the simplicity that is so appealing. It comes in a gift box which is also red and has a picture of the mug on the front. It is presented nicely and so would make a nice small gift for anyone. The mug is actually pretty high quality as it is bone china and so it does need some looking after. The mug is oversized and it's a nice size for a steaming hot cup of coffee. Because it is made of bone china it could be prone to chipping or cracking, but actually I've had this mug for about 18 months and, at the present time, it has no chips or cracks in it, despite almost daily use. In addition to this, the design has not faded at all and it looks good as new. I regularly put the mug in the dishwasher and there doesn't seem to be any ill-effects by doing so. Overall, I think this is a decent product and I would recommend it. Read the complete review |

Keep Calm and Carry On Red Mug
by daisylee3 Keep calm and carry on is a phrase that's sprung back to life in the past couple of years and pretty much everyone, well almost everyone that I know anyway, has a poster or keyring with the phrase on it. The phrase was originally produced by the british government as a quote for propaganda posters during the second world war to help ... raise the spirits of people living in poverty and fear. I'm not sure why the quote has become so popular in recent years but never the less I love it and it has certinaly become one of the must have in-things amongst my age group (young adults) and even teenagers have posters of it too - my brother who's younger than me has got a brown one, i've got a red one in my bedroom and my mum has also got a mint green one in the kitchen. My local B&M store recently began selling Keep Calm and Carry On merchandise - chopping boards, aprons and so on, which I thought looked a little tacky, however when I saw this mug just before Christmas I fell in love with it and snapped a couple of them up for a bargain £1.89 each. I decided to purchase six all together, one for myself and the rest as a little gift for some of my friends who I know love the quote. The mugs didn't come in a box (like it is in the picture) but it is identical to the Dooyoo picture. The mug is widely available and can be purchased from gift/card shops or alternatively Amazon. The offficial keep calm and carry on (keepcalmandcarryon.com) website also sells them in a range of different designs. The RRP is £7.95 which I think is ridiculous and I am glad I got mine for so cheap as I defiently wouldn't pay the RRP. I have a feeling the ones in B&M were cheap because they didn't have boxes. The mug doesn't hold a lot of liquid and it holds 250ml all together which is smaller than a can of coke. It is made of bone china, and is solid but lightweight enough even when full to hold comfortably. The design of the mug is basic, it's white with a red rectangle on the back and front and each reads 'Keep calm and carry on' in white font. Above the quote is a crown - it looks just like the posters. Mine isn't a solid red colour and it has a white background. I would of preferred it to be red all over but for the price I paid i'm not going to complain! It's very eye catching and it's also unisex. Inside it's white, so with coffee and hot chocolate etc it leaves marks and stains but as the mug is dishwasher safe it's easy to clean and remove any markings. The handle is a decent size and I am able to either hold it with my fingers or wrap my hands around the inside of the handle with my thumb on the outside - it's plenty big enough and the handle feels sturdy. The mug insulates the drinks well and warms up quickly but the handle doesn't get as hot as quickly so it's not awkward to hold. It is microwave safe so I am able to mix together a coffee and just stick it in the microwave to warm up rather than waiting for the kettle to boil. The mug is eye catching and I really like it. It's good quality but the full RRP is a bit over the top although if you like it and don't mind paying almost £8 for a mug, then i'd reccomend it. It would make a lovely gift too! Keep Calm and Carry On Red Mug
by trayrope Let's start with a very short history lesson. The saying "Keep Calm and Carry On" was first introduced in 1939 as a propaganda poster by the British Government intended to raise moral in case of invasion during the war. This could be why it has been making a steady return to our day to day lives in the form of tea towels, ... T-shirts, mouse mats and cups just to name a few as the British Moral is pretty low at the moment due to the economic crises and other world issues. What I am about to review here is the "Keep Calm and Carry On" mug that my daughter brought for my husband as Christmas present this year just gone. The mug came (as most things do in my house) from Amazon.co.uk and cost £5.99. I have seen cheaper versions of this mug in supermarkets and various card shops and have to say that while you may save yourself a few pounds the print quality on the cheaper mugs is no where near as clear, sharp and vibrant as the printing on the mug from amazon.co.uk. The mug itself came in a nice snug box with plenty of protective packaging so my fears over a jigsaw cup for Christmas where wholly unfounded. As this came in a box it was very easy to wrap, no grabbing the handle a saying "Ummm, is it socks?" Once out of the box the mug is a glossy pillar box red with the "Keep Calm and Carry On" logo on the front and backside of the cup, so no matter which way you hold your cup (lefty or righty) you can see the logo. Above the writing is a crown, nicely tying in with the stiff upper lip and moral boosting saying. The cup itself stands 9.7cm tall and has a width of 8.5cm and a circumference of 27.5 cm. Those measurements make it one sturdy cup and very unlikely to get toppled over. The handle of the cup is 6cm deep and 4cm wide making it plenty large enough for the biggest handed fellow out there to pop his fingers through. With those measurements you would expect a pretty large cup of tea or coffee (tea is more British old chap) and the cup does not fail on that account it holds 350ml of liquid as appose to most of my other cups that hold 325ml. So an extra moral boosting mouthful or two is held within. The thickness of the china is 2mm, for those of you out there who do not like a thick mug upon your lips. The thickness of the china is enough to keep your hands warm when you wrap them around the mug without becoming so hot that it is uncomfortable and more importantly keeps your cuppa nice and hot. The base of the cup is mostly white with a red spot on the bottom that has a white crown on and some white writing on that says "Keep Calm" (I just tipped the mug up over the keyboard to look at this and dripped the last drops of tea on to the keys, oops!!) This cup has been used daily since it emerged from its wrapping on Christmas day, it has suffered no chips and there are no scratches to the paintwork despite being repeatedly hand washed (I do not have a dishwasher) it has started to stain a bit on the inside but I think that could be down to the water in our area or the teabags used as all my cups get discoloured and need cleaning with some Barkeepers Friend once in a while. In conclusion I think this is a fantastic little mug and well worth the £5.99, including postage, that my daughter paid for it. You can try and save a little by buying from elsewhere but I think what you lose in quality is not worth it. The logo is just as effective as it used to be and will bring a smile to anyone's face when they read it. With it coming in a box it makes an ideal thoughtful small gift for a friend or relative.
