Cath Kidston Stars Crush Mug
Advantages: Bold & cute design, good quality, large
Disadvantages: None per se just very hot tea because it's thinner than most mugs
I bought this a little while ago when I saw it reduced on Amazon, and being a bit of a mug hoarder, I added it to my collection because I thought it looked cute. Cath Kidson designs don't always do it for me because I'm not really a floral fan, but this star mug is quite funky & I've been very happy with it.
Cath Kidston was founded in 1993 and has since grown rapidly in popularity and now produces a vast range of products. Many kitchen items, such as mugs, use Churchill China, a company with over 200 years of experience in producing good quality china. This made me feel a bit more confident that rather than simply paying for a brand and design I was also paying for a high quality product that would last.
The Star Crush mug holds 18oz and shapes up at approximately 17.8 x 17.8 x 10.2 cm, so it's a reasonably large mug. It's also relatively thin, made from '100% fine china', but not brittle or frail. The design mixes 'the whimsical, the classic and the nostalgic', though I think the Star mug is far more modern than that with a twist of retro perhaps. Quite simply, the mug is predominantly white with large stars of varying sizes in different colours, including red, blue, yellow and green. Because of the white china and the large shape of the stars, the design looks bold and distinctive rather than cluttered.
I've found the design to be reliable because it hasn't faded since I bought it, which is always a good sign. I like the bold colours and distinguishing design because they stand out and are quite fun, so it's a mug that I use to cheer myself up with sometimes. The mug itself is good quality and I've not noticed any faults with it thus far. The handle is large enough to be able to hold this easily, even when full with tea, which can make it reasonably heavy as it's quite a large mug.
Due to the china being quite thin as opposed to a thicker mug, tea seems to stay piping hot for longer. Having said that, it's not brittle or overly delicate either, so I this is fine as an everyday mug. I'm confident that the design will continue to last and that the mug will remain in good shape for a while to come yet.
All in all this is one I'd recommend as its modern, bold, bright and funky design is complemented by the overall good quality of the mug itself.
