Received as a gift, I though this mug seemed excellent quality and I was pleased to see it was china rather than stoneware, as tea tastes so much better out of china! Actually, it is also very robust too - mine has lasted about three years of regular use, and still going strong.
The size of the mug is great too - it is slighter larger than my usual china mugs, and its width at the top makes it pleasant to drink from. There are no flaws in the white surface, and the writing of the logo is not a tacky transfer-style job, but rather a well-made printed one.
The tin that it comes in has proved useful too - it is strong and has a well-fitting lid (I use mine for sewing thread storage, but I'm sure everyone will have some use for it!). The only drawback is that because it is so personalised with its "Super Mum" logo, it can't be given to just anyone who visits for a cuppa without raising an eyebrow.
These mugs are quite expensive, but because they make such a lovely gift in their tin, and seem excellent quality, I would say they are worth it if you find one that has the right slogan on! Bear in mind that some of the different styles are slightly different sizes (we also have "Top Dad" which is the same size, and the "Big Spender" one which is bigger) and this may be significant if you were intending to buy two different styles for a couple.
Being a single parent means there isn't that 'other' parent around to buy gifts for my daughter to give to me for birthdays or Christmas. My mum stepped in, and last Christmas my daughter apparently told my mum to buy this mug for her to give to me, she has only just started putting sentences together so I don't really think this is true, but it's sweet all the same!
The Jamie Oliver mug comes inside of a tin. No cardboard box and mountains of bubble wrap, hurrah! The tin has a picture of Jamie Oliver on it, so there is no guessing who designed the mug, it also has a picture of the mug itself, so you know what you are getting inside.
The mug is a nice size, a little bigger than your standard mug. It apparently holds 0.4 litres, I don't stand there and make my tea in a jug and pour it into the mug, so I wouldn't know for definite, but it does hold a lot. The mug has a nice shape, with a slight curve all the way around, perfect for holding it in both hands on a chilly day. The same goes for the handle too, it has a nice curve to it, it's also a nice size. I like to slot my fingers through the handle and hold the mug that way.
The design of the mug is nice, with 'super mum' printed on the side in almost a scribble like way. I like the fact that the super mum words both have a different colour purple. Jamie Oliver has designed a few different mugs in his Cheeky mug range including this super mum mug, there are others such as cheeky monkey, party animal, posh totty, green fingers, to name a few. All of them have the same design of a couple of words in a scribble type font.
The mug keeps tea nice and warm longer than my standard mugs, it's made from Churchill china, although this means nothing to me, it could be the reason why. The mug is easy to wash also, just a bit of soapy water does the trick, I would imagine it's dish washer safe too, but I can't be sure.
For the purpose of this review I've just looked at how much this mug is and I'm quite surprised. At around £10, it's quite expensive. Although it looks like a nice gift the way in which it has been packaged into the tin, I don't think I would have purchased this myself.
Overall, I would recommend this mug as something to give someone as a gift, it does look nice and is well presented. However, if I was to purchase myself a mug, I wouldn't spend £10 on one, no matter how amazing it is.
