      Thanks to everyone who took the time and effort to both read and rate my last review and now here I go again, this time with a review of my very own trusty Pyrex Casserole Dish. Mine is in white opaque and not the transparent glass and mine has a lid. I think they all come with lids and the base of mine has two very small handles at the sides with which to move it from oven to table, or vice versa. As mine is opaque I had expected it to mark over time, but I can say thatit hasn't, and I've sued this an awful lot.

      I sue this in my conventional oven to make casseroles, stews and pasta bakes and I've also used it lots of times in my microwave. It's perfectly safe to store this casserole dish in a freezer even, as Pyrex can withstand massive changes of pretty extreme temperatures and it won't shatter.

      My bowl is quite large at 17cm in diameter and it's large enough to cook a family sized meal inside. Once I've used this casserole dish to cook with then I'll often leave it to put inside the oven to reheat meals. The tops and sides will go hard and crust over but cleaning this casserole dish is very easy though sometimes it has to be soaked.

      It's marvelous in that it's so very hard wearing and it's a dish I use very regularly. It's certainly one I'd recommend, especially if you have a family, though just as good and just as well used if you happen to live on your own. It cost me just over five pounds.

        I purchased a single Pyrex Casserole 2 Litre dish for £7 from my local Asda supermarket; it can still be purchased from Asda's online website for the same price. The Amazon website has it for sale for £9.26, http://www.dunelm-mill.com has it for sale at a lower price of £5.99, and it offers free reserve and collect as well which is handy as it saves on postage costs. Sainsbury's are selling the 2 Litre Pyrex Casserole dish for £10, and the Tesco's website states they are currently out of stock.

        My Experience

        This Pyrex Casserole dish measures approx 22 cm in height, 11 cm wide, 22 cm deep and weighs approx 2 kgs. It has a 2 Litre capacity and is perfect for making casserole dishes for a small family, as I have a small family of two I find it makes more than enough to feed the two of us and have plenty left over for the next day.


        It is made from Borosilicate glass which is basically an extra durable glass that enables it to cope with both hot and cold temperatures and basically means it is made from a thermal shock resistance material. This of course is ideal for cooking dishes in the oven as you can just add the ingredients into this dish and pop it into the oven to cook, as it is has a resistance of up to 300 degrees centigrade.


        It comes with a glass lid to prevent any splashes or food spilling over, which fits on securely. It has two handles positioned on either side which are also made of glass, these are easy to grip onto, and I found that it also enabled me to form a good grip on the handles while wearing thick oven gloves, making it easy to transport in and out of the oven even when hot. As it weighs approx 2 kg it is therefore a little heavy, especially if the 2 litre capacity is full however this is not a huge issue, as I find that a good firm grip on either side helps cope with the weight.


        The great thing about this Pyrex dish is just how versatile it is, it can be used to cook and serve a number of meals not just casserole. I frequently use this dish to cook shepherds pie, pasta bake, roast chicken, roast vegetables and potato bakes. I also use this to serve meals such as spaghetti bolognaise, curry dishes etc which illustrates just how much this Pyrex dish comes into use. I have had great results when cooking food in this dish, it cooks meat, potatoes, pasta etc as you would expect. The transparent glass material makes it easy to view the cooking progress, and the easy to remove lid allows me to check easily on whether the cheese is nicely melted when preparing pasta and potato bakes.

        It is highly durable so it wouldn't be easy for chips or cracks to develop in the dish, and therefore makes this a very long lasting cooking and serving dish. I have had mine for a good few years and it still looks good as new.


        It is dishwasher safe which makes it a lot easier to clean, as I find cleaning by hand can be a little tough due to the weight. It is also microwave proof, so reheating left over food can be done easily without having to empty it all out into another microwaveable dish. It is fridge and freezer proof, so I frequently store leftovers in this dish and store it the fridge for the next day or weekend. I haven't actually stored this in the freezer, but I am sure it would easily cope with the temperatures if I did.

        Overall this is an excellent Pyrex dish that has a reasonable sized capacity and is oven, microwave, fridge and freezer proof. It is highly durable, long lasting and is an item all kitchens should have, therefore I give this product a full 5/5 rating.

        Pyrex Round Casserole Dish 2 L

        DESCRIPTON:

        Pyrex is a brand name of a toughened glass used in cooking. I personally, have a lot of Pyrex, some bought, some given and quite a lot inherited. I have even managed to break some, not on purpose, but I did seem to go through a phase of dropping items on the floor and not all of it survived.

        The appearance is of thick clear glass and according to Wikipedia was first trade-marked in 1915 having been developed by German engineer Otto Schott and is actually called Borosilicate.

        Pyrex dishes are safe up to 300 degrees centigrade, wash up well and are great for oven to table use. From a cooks point of view a selection of Pyrex dishes are surely a must have. They are clear glass, quite thick and weighty, with a solid appearance. The dishes clean up well and are dishwasher and scourer proof.

        REVIEW:

        As mentioned some of my Pyrex is old, the 2L dish I have is a newer item and one I bought myself, although thinking about it even this dish is probably 20 years old!

        I tend to use it for Macaroni Cheese, Butternut Squash Casserole and Bread and Butter pudding most of the time and it is fun to see the food bubbling up and the sauce thickening through the clear glass sides.

        IN USE:

        When you get your Pyrex home, first remove any labels and wash in warm soapy water, then it is just a case of getting on and using them. All items can be used in the oven, under the grill or in the microwave and they are useful for any number of different household uses. As mentioned above I tend to use my larger casserole dish for a few items, I have also used it for making flapjacks when my favourite Pyrex pie dish was already in use, but I did find the deeper sides made it harder to get out. For a while we only had the microwave with grill as our main over had packed up and that was when Pyrex was especially useful as it could be microwaved and grilled without any concern.

        Whilst I have never measured the capacity, I find the 2 Litre dish ideal for a family of three or for two, plus a small portion to reuse of most things I cook in it. I tend to use a larger dish for chicken casserole or a smaller one for specialist type dishes for two, when vegetables are served separately. Using this for anything else! I believe for most uses and many families this would be the ideal size. I just use the dish as I would any casserole dish or open oven dish without the lid, however I do not use on the hob and I don't think you are supposed to either.

        If any bits stick to the surface, cleaning is a doddle, I find a good soak will usually dispense of most if not all stuck on food, remaining tougher sticks can easily be removed with any type of scourer. They drip dry or towel dry and tend to come out of a dishwasher if you use one sparkling. Making Pyrex an ideal oven to tableware choice.

        WHO FOR:

        Ideal for families, however, singles and couples might want the smaller size if space is a premium. Keen cooks like me, will require one in each size and larger families may require two, or to casserole the main protein and sauce with the vegetables and accompaniments being cooked separately. They are flexible enough to allow your choices to be flexible.

        CONCLUSION & STARS:

        I would definitely recommend the 2L Pyrex casserole dish they are so versatile and represent excellent value for money due to the quality and they should last for many years and generations. They are tough and robust and despite what I have mentioned before are actually quite difficult to accidently break. I find Pyrex products truly versatile and they are a valued resource in my kitchen.

        PRICE AND AVAILABILITY:

        At the time of writing (December 2013) the 2 litre dish is £9.26 from Amazon with the set of three being £26.07 which I believe represents excellent value for money. The 2.5 litre version is around £11.20 from John Lewis and the Pyrex range is stocked by many other retailers. Make sure you get the real deal though as I have found any other glass cookware is just not as good.

          21 years and counting, it has to be five stars!

          I own a few items of Pyrex, but this casserole dish is the one piece I've had the longest. In fact, I've a feeling that I had it when I first into my first home - which is now 21 years ago, and even then I think it was already pre-owned by my mum, who gave it to me! In truth, it definitely shows signs that it has been around for that length of time - despite Pyrex's scratch & stain-resistant finishes, it's got lots of shallow scratches all over it and some burnt-on staining to the lid and rim of the dish - but it is still going strong and gets a regular outing. We aren't great casserole eaters but I like to do chicken in it and it's the perfect size for 2-3 leg or quarters portions or a couple of large breasts (now, now!).

          The dimensions of the main dish are 190mm diameter and 68mm deep; the glass itself is approximately 6mm thick. I wasn't sure of the capacity so I have just filled it with water, and this size at those dimensions is 1litre. The lid has a raised lip on the underside which sits snugly - but not too tight - inside the rim of the main dish. There are two glass extensions to the sides which act as handles, these run to an extent of 25mm deep which is enough to grab securely with oven gloves on.

          The look of the dish, complete with its lid is easy on the eye with a rounded edge to the lid all around, and overall with the lid on it makes the dish 110mm deep. There is a trusty feel to the whole thing although it's not overly heavy at all. It's really easy for me to handle in and out of the oven. The word "Pyrex" is embossed into the glass underneath it's base. When putting the dish away, the lid can be turned upside down and it sits securely in place on top of the dish, so this makes it only around 70mm deep and a tidy storage solution.

          Being Pyrex I am confident putting it in either the oven or the microwave, knowing that it is designed and made to perform in such conditions. Pyrex is safe to 300degrees C as well as being thermal shock resistant, so it will pretty much be fine in all domestic cooking situations. According to the website, the dish is also safe in a freezer down to minus 40, and is dishwasher safe should you have one.

          Great to have - when you get them back!

          Just to get some background, I had a quick Google of Pyrex before starting the review and discovered that heat-resistant and shatterproof glass was manufactured in the early 1900s and used in railway lanterns by US company Corning Glass. In 1913 the wife of one of the company's executives suggested using it to make baking dishes, and the first range of Pyrex bake ware went on sale in Boston in 1915. (source: ehow.com).

          I can't boast that my Pyrex Casserole Dishes have been around for nearly one hundred years, but I think I brought them with me when we moved into Spaniel Hall - and that was fourteen years ago. I'd a set of three - and only two remain here. The other one is still probably going strong too - I don't hold grudges, but I remember making some pate in it in 2002, delivering it to one of the Baron's acquaintances and never seeing the dish again. And it was Christmas.

          The above pic only shows one dish, but when you click on the Amazon listing it is the set of three.

          The two that I am left with are the largest two litre size, and the smallest which is 0.75 litres, and despite their age are probably the most used cooking crockery I own. Whilst ceramic dishes have fractured, cracked, discoloured or fallen from a height, the Pyrex is as strong as you would expect any rail road lamp to be and has lasted through years of use.

          The Pyrex itself is a great material. Being shatterproof and heat resistant are only two of its qualities. Being glass and obviously see through means that if you are making a casserole, you don't have to lift of the lid to check on the cooking, plus if you have cooked something and then subsequently frozen it in the dish you'll be able to make a reasonable guess at what is inside!

          Although they are casserole dishes, I have many other uses for them. I would use them a lot for roasting, as I like to cook my roast on its own (as opposed to having potatoes and vegetables around it) so that I can remove and separate the fat and the juice. The dishes and lids have little handles which makes them easy to lift during cooking and pour off the fat and juice as I go. The smallest dish will do nicely for a tiny little roast if it is just for us two, and the larger one with take a 4-6 person-sized roast. We also eat a lot of game fowl, which can dry out during roasting, so I cook any birds long and slow with the lid on to keep moisture in, then just before cooking time is up, I'll remove them from the dish, put them on the upturned lid and brown them quickly under the grill. If there are just the two of us I'll often put the lid upside down on the dish and cook potato wedges or roast vegetables on the top while doing a casserole or covered roast. The large lid is also a good size for making pies, although I've yet to do a pie and a casserole one on top of the other!

          I've baked sponges, crumbles and cakes in them, plus made cold desserts such as trifles or tiramisu - in both large and small sizes. I've also make a jelly aquarium of slime and gummy worms!

          The Pyrex is really easy to clean - much easier than ceramic or metal roasting dishes or pans I have. A short steep in hot water with washing up liquid removes any brown bits which have stuck with just a rub - I have never had to scrub or use any force to clean even the most burnt of offerings.

          I can't recall how much I paid for my set - but the link above says £18.86 for the set of three, which is a fantastic price for these versatile, quality dishes.

          I'd happily give Five stars to these dishes.

          I'm sure the person who still has mine would too!

            A great value casserole dish perfect for any kitchen.

            I moved into my first home with my partner 8 years ago now in the middle of summer so mostly lived off salads but when it came to winter I realised that I needed to purchase a casserole dish to allow me to cook stews and casserole in. Having already purchased other Pyrex items and not having the budget to stretch to cast iron I decided to purchase the 2.5 Litre Pyrex casserole dish which is still in perfect condition 8 years later.
            I cannot remember how much I paid for my casserole dish but I know it was certainly under £10.00. I have checked on www.tesco.com and they are currently priced at £7.50 which I think is certainly a bargain. You can also buy the casserole dish in smaller and larger sizes which will obviously vary in price accordingly.

            As you probably know Pyrex is a very strong clear glass and is dishwasher, freezer and oven safe. The casserole dish is in two pieces, the round deep bowl and indented lid which both have handles on the sides moulded from the glass which fit together when the lid is sat on the top of the bowl. The dish is quite a good depth in the region of about 5 inches and can hold 2.5 litres of liquid which allows me to make a good sized stew/casserole to feed around 4/6 people obviously depending on how big you like your portions. The lid is also very versatile as not only can you use it for a lid to cover the dish but with it being indented itself you can also use it as a shallow roasting dish for smaller items which I often do making you feel like you have two products for the price of one.

            I do generally use this dish for making stews and casseroles in the winter and love how I can make one then leave it to cool and place it straight in the fridge if needed to save for the next day without having to transfer it into another container and then from fridge back to oven/microwave to reheat. I have also roasted meat in the casserole dish and found that this also works really well and takes much less cleaning than using a metal roasting tray. Obviously when this dish is in the oven it does get extremely hot and remains hot for sometime with it being made from glass so you do need some heavy duty oven gloves but the handles on the side mean that it is easy to grip and as the handles meet together from the lid means that the lid remains in place and does not wobble around when you take it in/out of the oven. I have also on occasion too used the dish as a mixing bowl and a serving bowl making it even more versatile.

            Cleaning the Pyrex casserole dish is rather easy, with it being glass it does not stain and although I have had to use a brilo pad on a few occasions to scrub off a few marks of burnt on food only a light scrub is needed. As stated I have had my dish for around 8 years now and although it has a few scratches on the bottom there is no other wear and as long as I do not drop it then I have no doubt in my mind that this dish will last much longer yet.

            Overall I have been really happy with my Pyrex casserole dish it is very versatile, fairly easy to clean and due to is longevity makes it excellent value. Although I would love a cast iron casserole dish one day I think I would still keep my good old Pyrex one as it just has so many uses. Highly recommended.

            I don't know what I'd do without this dish!

            ---Intro---
            Before I went to University, my cooking skills extended as far as grilling bacon, and making Bachelors Pasta 'n' Sauces! In the first year I was in catered halls, which meant that I was forced to live on takeaways and pub food (the food that they prepared for us disgusting and in the summer was full of ants), and in the second year since the house I lived in was so vile I continued to live on takeaways, chicken and mushroom pies and Nik Naks! In the third and fourth years however, I learnt to cook, with the help of my ex-husband - much as it pains me to give him any credit for anything, I came out of the marriage a pretty good cook...and I also got custody of most of our cookware.

            ---What is Pyrex---
            According to Wikipedia "Pyrex (trademarked as PYREX) is a brand which was introduced by Corning Incorporated in 1915 for a line of clear, low-thermal-expansion borosilicate glass used for laboratory glassware and kitchenware". It is a type of glass which is extremely durable and resilient, and personally I don't think that anything can beat it!

            The brand Pyrex manufacture loads of different cookware products, and more can be found on the following website - www.arc-international-cookware. com/en?l=en (remove spaces to follow link). But today I am reviewing a traditional Pyrex casserole dish.

            ---My Pyrex Dish---
            My mum gave me the 2.5 litre Pyrex casserole dish as a present as I was learning to cook, which must mean that I've had it for about 12 or 13 years. I have used this dish hundreds and hundreds of times over the years. The most common dishes I prepare in it are Tuna Pasta Bake, Lasagne, Shepherd's Pie, Cottage Pie, Beef Stew and Chicken Casserole. I also use it for desserts when making crumbles! My dish comes with a lid which is useful for casseroles, but obviously I don't have it on when doing bakes as I need the cheese to go crispy on top. The lid can also be used on its own for making smallish pies which I have done a couple of times.

            The casserole dish I have is the idea size to do dinner for four people when doing pasta bakes etc. Even though it's usually only myself, or myself and my boyfriend that I'm cooking for, the majority of the time I cook enough for 4 and freeze individual portions for me to eat on other days such as when my boyfriend's working.

            It can sometimes it can be a bit of a struggle to fit with casseroles and stews if you want to get a lot of vegetables in with the meat, and if you want to get dumplings in there too! You might only be able to fit in enough for two or three people. I might at some point have to invest in a bigger Pyrex dish!

            ---Serving and cleaning---
            I take after my mother in that although we can both cook, we are both absolutely useless at serving food. It tends to go everywhere. Although my Pyrex casserole dish can't work miracles, it is relatively easy to serve from. It is also easy to get every last bit out of the dish as food doesn't tend to stick to the sides too much. However, I do tend to soak it after serving before washing it up properly. It is easy to clean, but can sometimes need a good scrub round the top and the lid as it can go a bit brown.

            Although I'm not in the habit of breaking things I must've dropped this on the floor quite a few times over the years, and there is no sign of damage whatsoever. If you so desire you can freeze food in the dish (although you'd need quite a lot of freezer space), and you can also reheat food in the microwave in it.

            ---Finally---
            A Pyrex casserole dish in my opinion is an absolute essential in the kitchen. A 2.5 litre dish like mine can be bought for less than £10 which is an absolute bargain as it will last you for years.

              When it comes to cooking I am a big fan of quick dishes - pastas, stir-frys and so on. Anything that involves ten minutes of chopping and ten minutes of cooking suits me down to the ground - and with a manic four-year-old and a new baby, time to cook is becoming more and more unlikely!

              However I am also a fan of anything that involves chopping up some meat and veggies, chucking it all in a dish and popping it into the oven, and one meal I frequently make is a chicken casserole. Best of all, my daughter enjoys this too so I tend to make as much as I can and freeze small portions for her to defrost at a later date. So it is ideal that I have a nice large and reliable casserole dish to use!

              Pyrex is a household name and I have several of their bowls and dishes. They are strong and durable and the ones I have have survived many uses without so much as a scratch or chip. They can go in the fridge, freezer, microwave or dishwasher with no problems and can withstand a 270 degree oven too. It also has a ten year guarantee.

              The round Pyrex casserole dish I have is the 2 litre version which is 9" in diameter and about 3" deep. I have had mine for a long time and am not even sure where I bought it from, but they are widely available online for about £6 and up.

              The dish is perfectly designed and is made entirely from tough glass. On either side of the dish is a flat handle so it's easy to take in or out of the oven. There is also a lid with handles that 'match' those on the bowl. This is actually my one complaint about the product as I would prefer a handle on the top that would be easier to lift! But this is a very minor complaint and not one that I am too bothered about.

              It is so easy to use this as you can pop your ingredients in, stick it in the oven and, best of all, when it comes to cleaning it is really easy to get sparkling, either washing by hand or in the dishwasher. It is reassuring using this well-known brand as you can rest assured that nothing is going to break or get damaged, and I am always impressed with how clean and new this looks when I take it out of the dishwasher.

              And as well as using this to cook in, you can also serve food in this dish as it is neutral and perfectly presentable! So it is good for if you have guests and you want people to serve themselves - I often use this if I have cooked a nice big curry, for example. It is also great for storing food in the fridge too, so it has a myriad of uses beyond just making casseroles!

              A low cost good quality dish

              When my Nan went into a nursing home we had to sell her house and sort the contents out.  At the time I was a student and I had a load of her kitchenware, most of it has since being broken or thrown away due to old age, but I still have a number of her Pyrex dishes.  She went into a home at least 10 years ago and I can remember her using some of these dishes when I was a child, so they could easily be well over 30 years old.

              I have the Pyrex casserole dish, which I don't tend to use for casseroles as I have a Le Creuset casserole pot (its much bigger) however I do use it to make rice puddings, cheese and potato pie, cauliflower cheese and other "English" classics as well as the sauce for spaghetti bolognese and pasta bake dishes.

              The casserole dish is about 18cm in diameter and 8cm in height, so it's quite big, big enough to make a cheese and potato pie for one meal for 2 adults and 2 kids.  The bottom part has two handles, one on each side which are exactly the same as the size of the handles on the lid, so they can be matched up for ease of holding the whole thing when putting it in and out of the oven.  The lid is raised above the perimeter of the dish so there is air space inside as the food is cooking.  Often though I cook without the lid, but the lid is really handy if I am saving food in the fridge.
               
              Pyrex is made out of very sturdy glass and it would take some effort to chip, as for a glass product they seem pretty indestructible.  Its dishwashable and can go in the microwave as well as the oven.  If I handwash it I always use a brush or soft sponge as I feel a scouring pad would scratch it, but its very easy to clean food from it and the glass doesn't harbour smells.  
               
              Considering this dish's age it's in almost perfect condition, they are extremely durable.  I don't know how much my Nan paid for it, but it was well worth the money.  I looked online and it seems you could buy one now for around £15.  All in all this is a suburb pyrex dish with lid.

              A brilliant product once again from Pyrex!

              With my love and appreciation of all things Pyrex, plus my boyfriend who is a chef liking it I was, I have to admit reluctant to buy this certain thing. I own a slow cooker which I love but looking on Amazon and me having a spend up on some new kitchen stuff my boyfriend convinced me to buy this and so I did!

              These comes in many varying sizes of course all varying in prices to. I got us the rather large 2L one of this so we could cook more in it and even freeze it in this dish and reheat it in the microwave and so on and it cost me the princely sum on said Amazon of about £8.50 including postage and packaging. I have to admit to wincing at the price slightly but I knew I was paying that much for a high quality item and one that would really last.

              The Dish:

              Well its round with a lid that safely slides on top of it that integrated handles. My dish is very deep but of course it does very much depend on the size you want. Its made of Borosilicate Glass which is a rather thick glass that is tough and robust and you do get a 10 year guarantee with this against manufacturers defects. Although this isn't entirely unbreakable it is a very strong item this and I knock mine about and allsorts and its been completely fine thankfully!

              You can use this in the dishwasher, microwave, fridge and even the freezer. It doesn't retain any flavours within it and I haven't found it to stain and I wash mine up by hand, give it a good scrub and no marks have appeared on it at all over time.

              My boyfriend uses this the most to make casseroles, shepherds pie and even curries from scratch. Its great that it is fridge and freezer safe cos all I do with the leftovers then is allow them to go back to room temperature and then zap it in the microwave...its just a really good versatile product this one the only issue I have with it though is when its full of food it all gets a bit too heavy for me but hey I leave my boyfriend to do the heavy lifting.

              All in all this is a great Pyrex dish and since buying this one I have bought a couple more. I have a smaller one that is perfect for just me on my own as well and I highly recommend them as they are so tough and hard wearing.

              Pyrex casserole dish

              This is one dish that gets used all the time in my house and is so handy and versatile. I have a number of different Pyrex dishes as they make them in all shapes and sizes to accommodate all your baking and cooking needs. This one is handy as we have casseroles in our house pretty much all the time so its great to just be able to throw all the fresh ingredients, put the lid on and then leave it in the oven to cook.

              I love how well made, versatile and cheap Pyrex products are and I believe are a great product everyone should own in their home. This pyrex casserole dish is made of something called Borosilicate glass which gives high thermal shock resistance and I find you can really put it in a very hot oven without it breaking or cracking. I have never had any of my Pyrex bowls break which is great although if you ever do have a problem with them they come with a 10 year guarantee from the manufacturer. 

              The glass is definitely very thick in this bowl and very sturdy. The bottom of it is flat so it stands well and then the sides are rounded making it a rounded casserole dish. I also have the oval Pyrex casserole dish but I tend to like this round one better, I'm not sure why, I just find it easier to get in and out of the oven and always tend to reach for this one when cooking a casserole and not my oval one. Its interesting though that even though this bowl is thick it is not heavy and is quite easy to lift and move about when you are taking it in and out of the oven. This is a really good benefit for me as sometimes I have quite a lot of ingredients in it and I need to be able to put it in the oven carefully so I'm glad its not too heavy.  

              What I also love about this casserole dish is that it comes with a glass lid as well. This is great because most of my casserole recipes call for the dish to be covered when it is in the oven and it stops all the liquid splattering out all over the bottom of the oven too. The lid has two handles on the side that are part of the glass so they just jut out either side. These handles on the lid match up to the same handles on  the bottom of the dish so when you lift it out of the oven it makes it even more secure to be able to hold both sets of handles and it keeps the lid on well too. 

              This is a 2Lt bowl so will hold enough casserole for a family of four. The bowl is dishwasher safe and microwave safe. The bowl is also stain resistant and doesn't retain flavours and I have to say this is still crystal clear and as see through as the day I bought it. A great way to cook!

                Another fantastic dish from Pyrex

                I love my Pyrex products. Look in my cookware cupboard and you will see lots of Pyrex dishes! One of those being the Pyrex casserole dish.

                ----- Price, size and availability -----
                Pyrex products are widely available to buy from anywhere that sells kitchen equipment, I bought mine from Wilkinsons, along with most of my other Pyrex products.

                This Pyrex casserole dish comes in different sizes, I've seen them as little as 0.75 litres and as big as 2 litres. If you wanted a bigger dish again, then the oval shaped casserole dish has bigger capacities. I personally have the 1.5 litre round casserole dish.

                I can't remember how much I paid exactly for my 1.5 litre dish but I think it was around £7. Of course, the price all depends on what size you go for.

                ----- My opinion -----
                I love my casserole dish, it's not only used for casseroles, but has 100 and 1 different uses. Mixing foods, and serving salads is just a few of the extra things I use my casserole dish for.

                Pyrex products are made from borosilicate toughened heat resistant glass, so they can be heated up to 300F without a problem, perfect for a dish that is used in the over for casseroles. The toughened glass also means that it is pretty much unbreakable, Pyrex give all of their products a 10 year guarantee so they must be pretty sure that the dishes are unbreakable. I've yet to break one, or damage one in anyway in the whole 3 years I've had them.

                This particular dish has moulded handles so putting it in and out of the oven is quite simple with oven gloves. I'm a bit of a wuss when it comes to cooking and hate getting things from the oven, so without having to try and get hold of the dish on the bottom or getting a good grip on the sides, these handles make my cook without any worries.

                The casserole dish is dishwasher safe, I don't have a dishwater so I cant comment, but washing them is simple with the normal washing up. A bit of soapy water and a little elbow grease and they look as good as new.

                I'd definitely recommend this Pyrex casserole dish, its made from an incredibly tough glass, and the moulded handles give me peace of mind when using the oven.

                good casserole dish

                I'm not a terribly good cook nor do I spend a lot of time in the kitchen but I do like to cook the occasional casserole or bake and, for that, I needed a decent casserole dish to cook it in. Pyrex was always my first choice as it was always what my parents had used and it had worked well and proved very durable. Pyrex is made from a borosilicate glass with high thermal shock resistance technology.

                I actually purchased a set of three casserole dishes of different sizes from Tesco for £14.99 which I thought a fantastic price. The three dishes have varying capacities - 0.75l, 1.25l and 2.0l - so I can pick whichever one best suits my needs. The dishes are round with moulded handles on two sides and have a lid with handles that fits on top.

                The bowls are a nice shape and fit neatly in the oven. The pyrex is also microwave and dishwasher safe and can be placed in the fridge and freezer. The set also came with a 10 year guarantee, which to me spoke volumes for their durability.

                I have used these a number of times and have found them to be fantastic. They heat up nicely and also have a good capacity for the food so, although the lid does not hold tightly in place, there is minimal spillage. They are easy to use and clean, despite not being completely non-stick. They clean up well in the dishwasher and are scratch resistant so look good as new after every wash. I do find that they can get quite dirty after use and can blacken slightly is any of the cooking liquid burns on (often it splatters on the lid and does this). This usually takes a but of soaking and scrubbing to remove but, as I say, they are scratch resistant so this does not cause any damage.

                Overall, excellent quality casserole dishes that are versatile and durable. Highly recommended.

                  A kitchen essential that will last and last

                  When my husband and I got married we needed literally everything for our new house, and so although we would be receiving some things as wedding gifts, we still needed everyday items such as kitchen gadgets and dishes. Not expensive ones, but the everyday kind, which are reliable but at the end of the day, if they were to be dropped accidently, it wouldn't be the end of the world, and could be easily replaced.

                  Pyrex is a very well known brand of kitchen wear and in fact I have a lot of their items in my kitchen cupboards, ranging from measuring jugs, to roasting dishes and two of these casserole dishes, the same as the picture at the top of the screen. My two casserole dishes from Pyrex are two different sizes, one at 2.0L and one 0.75L. The average price for the bigger of these two is around the £8 mark, whereas the smaller one is around the £6 mark. I got both of my pyrex casserole dishes in TK MAxx at almost half of the prices that I have just quoted, and so it is worth having a good look around.

                  Both of the casserole dishes that I have come with a lid which is very useful for both the oven, microwave and even the freezer when storing a casserole for example. Pyrex is a very well known brand, and has established itself as a reliable producer of kitchen essentials, which is probably why they offer a 10 year guarantee with their products, as they are confident of the quality of the items they produce. I have never in the five years or so of having these casserole dishes had to look into the guarantee, as they are still in perfect condition.

                  These casserole dishes are made from Borosilicate Glass which supposedly provides ' high thermal shock resistance' so should withstand a fair amount of heat, in fact these dishes should be able to withstand up to 300 degree temperatures, although I cannot say I have ever tried this out!

                  One of the best things about these casserole dishes and one that I alluded to earlier is that they are safe for both microwave and oven cooking, as well as being dishwasher safe and freezer friendly. THe only one of these I haven't tried out is the dishwasher safe part, as I don't have a dishwasher. I find these dishes ideal for casseroles, cooking vegetables in the microwave or putting something into for the freezer for an easy dinner some night.

                  All in all, pyrex has a well respected name, and with any product you may buy you can see why. The products should last you years, and the fact that there is a 10 year guarantee means the company must be pretty sure they will last a long time. A great kitchen essential. They might not look exciting but they are a great piece of kit!

                    A great pot for stews

                    When I moved into my new home a few years ago I bought a large amount of kitchenware and chose Pyrex as a brand for many of my items. Pyrex has been making glassware since the 1940's and is a household brand name when it comes to glassware. These products are extremely reliable and this is backed up by their 10 year manufacturer's guarantee.

                     
                    *Price and availability*
                    There are two sizes; the 0.5 L and the 1.7 L. The one I purchased was £8.99 and was 0.5L. I bought mine from my local supermarket but they are widely available on the internet.

                    *Description*
                     
                    The best thing I like casserole pot is that it made from toughened Borosilicate Glass, which gives this product a high thermal shock resistance meaning it is Oven Safe to 300 degress C. This makes is very heavy duty and hard wearing.
                    The casserole pot and the lid fit neatly together and there are two handles on the side of the lid so you can lift it off with ease. There are also handles on the side of the dish, so you can also get a better grip of it. They are a good size for gripping with bare hands or whilst wearing oven gloves.
                    It is quite thick glass which means that it is also very heavy! This is for the lid and the actual pot, together it weighs about 2.5 kg so it can be a bit of handful when you getting it out of the oven, especially if it is laden with hot casserole.

                    *My experiences*

                    I like the casserole dish because it is see through and means that i do not always have to take the lid off to keep an eye on my food, sometimes i do not even have to open the oven as I can simply see straight through.
                    I have had my Pyrex for many years now and it is still in fantastic condition. There are no cracks or scratches on the glass and it does not hold on to odours.
                    If I am not using it for cooking, I often use it as a serving bowl because it looks smart enough and i just leave the lid off.

                     
                    The Pyrex is safe in the microwave and it is also safe for storing in the fridge or freezer. However I have never had it in the microwave or the freezer as it just will not fit! I have had it in the fridge when saving some leftover food. When it comes to cleaning, the dish can be washed by hand or in the dishwasher.
                    The downside tto the casserole dish is that it is very heavy and it can be a bit of a chore getting it in and out of the oven, however this is a small price to pay for such a reliable product.
                    Size wise, the dish is perfect for me and I can get a good 4-6 servings out of it. Any bigger and I'm not sure I could carry it!
