The Spinning Hat website states - ' relax with this nostalgic mug inspired by the iconic image of your favourite classic toy. We spent months perfecting a specially designed square mug that looks great and is actually easy to drink from with its special curved lip. No dribbling and slobbering over the cube like you did when you desperately tried to solve the original one... this one is perfect: pre-solved and dribble free!'.
This was a lovely surprise present as I always love unusual and colourful items - plus I remember having and failing with a Rubik's Cube when they first came out.
I had seen this mug online before when I was browsing Rubik items a while ago after seeing a Rubik's Cube tissue box cover on the TV programme 'Big Bang Theory'.
This mug came in a strong white cardboard box and was in one piece when I unwrapped it. When it is removed from the packaging it looks quite a smallish mug - being only just over 3 inches tall. However this is deceptive as comparing it to my normal everyday mugs it actually held the same - roughly half a pint.
I must admit the first time I had tea in it I was a bit sceptical as to how it would feel. I know the website stated that it had a special curved lip to avoid spills - but I did take it cautious.
Anyway although the mug itself is square inside they have curved it up to the top lip so that there is no 'shelf' for the contents to spill over when you raise the mug to drink. You can therefore drink reasonably easily from it and I have been having no spills at all.
the only thing I could say is that having this curved section up to the top means that when you drink you can feel that the mug is quite thick where you put it to your mouth. Not a problem as such but it takes a bit of getting used to after using thin ordinary mugs.
However I do not see that I will be using this mug on a daily basis really but may more than likely put it our on display somewhere. It is perfectly usable but I think I would rather keep it safe and admire it rather than use it all the time with the chance it might break.
It is a well made and pretty item that I shall enjoy looking at. I would probably have bought one for myself ages ago if it had not been for the cost.
I also like the other items in the range and they can be bought from either Spinning Hat, the official Rubik website or many other gadget websites, including Amazon and ebay.
Looking on the official Rubik site has shown me many more items in the range I would like to have and I hope someone will get them for me - such as torches and key rings. They even sell a Rubik's dress for £25 which has to be seen to be believed!
This is a great wacky present for men or women - but probably especially men (or teenage boys) when you cannot think what to buy.
4 stars - depending on the cost - more a novelty that an everyday mug.
