Advantages: strong, well made 17"crt
Disadvantages: Its not an LCD
I received a Compaq 7500 monitor with my old Compaq PC about 3 years ago in 2002.
INFO
The 7500 is a 17" CRT screen made by Compaq but made in China.
I don't think Compaq sell these any more but I have seen them on EBAY for about £35 and as little as £16.
DETAILS AND DESIGN
The monitor is all black in design with a silver frame surrounding the screen and the controls. Well really it's not silver but more like a brushed aluminium effect.
This is a standard 17" Compaq monitor with I think a 16" viewable area.
It's shape and design are far better than a lot of newer monitors on the market today. The main back section of the monitor is not that big so you can easily fit the monitor on to the smaller sized office desks you get for home PC's. Rough sizes are • 43 cm (H) x 41 cm (W) X 45 cm (D)
I like this monitor for both its physical and aesthetic appearances. It just seems to fit in well on the desk even though it's a CRT. Even though this is a CRT its not actually that heavy, often a bad point of a lot of standard monitors these days. It weighs in at around 17KG.
Resolution goes up to 1280 *1240 which is not brilliant but good enough for most PC applications and games.
The 7500 comes with standard UK D plug and a fairly long cable to get round the back of the bigger desks.
CONTROLS
There are a variety of standard controls for adjusting picture size and shape along with hue and saturation effects and colour adjustment. All control is accessed via a single easy to use menu button along with a plus button and a minus button to make the changes.
Using the monitor you can see that its not a cheap copy. Games and the likes are displayed perfectly with good colour ratios throughout.
Changing the resolution takes no time at all.
ELSE
The monitor comes complete with power lead and a manual.
Overall this is a good monitor, well designed and well made. It's a shame I have to get rid of my old PC and cant keep the monitor.
Summary: Good all round monitor, lacks finer points of an LCD
