I decided to buy a new monitor because the one I was using had become a "bit" past it. There was writing burnt onto the screen and it kept flickering all the time. So getting a new one was becoming quite a priority. The one I had was 17" so getting anything smaller would have been painful. I was lucky enough to go on some paid work experience at a local computer company.
